This Quality Engineer role focuses on strengthening and supporting quality systems within a high-impact manufacturing environment where precision, reliability, and first-time quality are critical. You will work closely with manufacturing teams to drive root cause analysis, corrective actions, and continuous improvement initiatives that directly support critical industries such as aerospace and industrial power. Responsibilities
Support and maintain quality systems to ensure consistent, compliant, and reliable manufacturing outcomes.
Lead or support root cause analysis and corrective action efforts to resolve quality issues and prevent recurrence.
Partner closely with manufacturing teams to improve quality outcomes and drive first-time quality across production operations.
Review inspection data to identify trends, issues, and opportunities for process improvement.
Support and participate in quality audits, including preparation, execution, and follow-up on findings.
Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives focused on process control, product quality, and operational efficiency.
Document quality findings, corrective actions, and process changes clearly and accurately to support compliance and traceability.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including manufacturing, engineering, and leadership, to align on quality objectives and improvement plans.
Maintain a strong presence on the shop floor to observe operations, engage with production personnel, and verify the effectiveness of quality controls.
Balance hands-on execution with the documentation and reporting required for regulated and quality-focused environments.
Essential Skills
Quality engineering experience with a strong focus on manufacturing or inspection environments.
Engineering degree or equivalent quality engineering experience.
Experience working in manufacturing or inspection environments with exposure to production processes.
Strong documentation skills, including clear and accurate recording of quality issues, corrective actions, and process changes.
Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to perform root cause analysis and implement effective corrective actions.
Mechanical engineering knowledge applicable to product and process evaluation.
Mechanical design understanding to support product engineering and process development activities.
Experience with process development in a manufacturing setting.
Proficiency with AutoCAD or similar tools for reviewing or supporting engineering and quality-related documentation.
Ability to work comfortably and effectively with operations and shop-floor personnel.
Detail-oriented and compliance-minded approach to work, with a strong focus on safety, quality, and adherence to documented processes.
Ability to balance hands-on execution with thorough documentation requirements.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience in aerospace, defense, nuclear, or other regulated industries.
Experience with corrective actions and quality audits, including participation in or support of audit activities.
Strong shop-floor presence with the ability to regularly walk the production floor and observe operations.
Comfort working closely with manufacturing, quality, and engineering teams in a fast-paced environment.
Interest in automation initiatives and advanced manufacturing technologies.
Motivation to grow technical depth while broadening experience across manufacturing and automation.
Ability to thrive in a culture of quality, accountability, and disciplined execution.
Work Environment
This is an onsite role based in a manufacturing facility in Groton, CT, combining office-based work with regular time spent on the production floor. You will frequently collaborate with manufacturing, quality, and engineering teams in a fast-paced environment driven by production schedules and continuous improvement initiatives. The role involves exposure to industrial equipment, tooling, and automated manufacturing processes, and requires comfort working around active production areas, including walking the shop floor and observing operations. The pay range for this position is $75000.00 - $95000.00/yr.
