dsm-firmenich Financial Controller (m/w/d) in Grenzach, Germany
We are looking for a Finance Controller to join our manufacturing site in Grenzach, Germany. In this position, you will work closely with both the local Site Controller and the financial control team based in the Netherlands as well as with the Financial Shared Services in India.
Your main responsibilities include overseeing daily accounting operations and supporting reporting and financial planning for our Grenzach site. This role also involves building strong relationships with key internal and external partners, as well as actively coordinating with the Financial Shared Service Center to ensure smooth finance-related processes.
Your key responsibilities
Accounting Operations & Closing
Coordinate the accounting and month-end closing processes in partnership with the Financial Shared Services team, ensuring timely and accurate completion.
Oversee day-to-day operational accounting activities, maintaining high standards of accuracy and efficiency.
Deliver timely and accurate transfer price calculation.
Provide all judgement-based inputs (e.g. accruals, provisions, corrections) to the Shared Service Center to support accurate financial records.
Collaborate with external service providers to manage statutory closing activities.
Compliance & Controls
Ensure strict adherence to both internal policies and external accounting standards, fostering a culture of compliance and integrity.
Provide documentation and monitor the Internal Control Framework, ensuring robust controls are in place.
Serve as the primary contact for internal and external audits — covering group reporting and statutory matters — to facilitate smooth audit processes and timely resolution of issues.
Financial Analysis & Reporting
Conduct first level variance analysis during closing activities, identifying key trends and deviations.
Support the preparation of financial and management reporting, including monthly reporting deck.
Support budgeting & forecasting process in close collaboration with the Site Controller.
Process Improvement & Stakeholder Collaboration
Act as a trusted advisor and point of contact for all accounting-related topics, providing expert guidance for all stakeholders.
Drive process improvements and foster effective collaboration with the Financial Shared Services team, enhancing operational efficiency and service quality.

You bring
Education & Professional Credentials
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in accounting, financial controlling, or a related field; CPA certification is a plus.
Comprehensive knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), with proven experience in statutory audit processes.
Deep understanding of finance and accounting processes, with a demonstrated sense of ownership and accountability.
Technical Skills & Experience
At least 5 years of progressive experience in Accounting, Controlling, or Audit, with a demonstrated eagerness for continuous learning and professional growth.
Hands-on experience working within a Shared Services environment.
Familiarity with manufacturing or operational environments is a strong advantage.
Proficiency in SAP and advanced Excel skills; ability to analyze and interpret complex financial data efficiently.
Fluency in English is required; strong proficiency in German is highly preferred but not mandatory.
