Smurfit Westrock Material Handler in Greenville, Texas

The Material Handler is responsible for supporting safe, efficient warehouse and production operations by moving, staging, and managing materials, work\u2011in\u2011process (WIP), and finished goods. This role ensures proper material flow, warehouse organization, product integrity, and compliance with safety, quality, and GMP standards.


  1. Safety
  • Ensure all safety procedures are followed at all times.

  • Hold employees accountable for working within established rules and for proactively identifying and removing hazards.

  • Immediately report all near misses, incidents, first aid cases, and unsafe working conditions to the Plant Manager and Safety Manager without exception.

  • Model and administer safety within the assigned area of responsibility.

  • Ensure compliance with all applicable OSHA regulations and plant safety standards.

  • Maintain responsibility for the safety and well\u2011being of self and others.


  1. General Responsibilities
  • Maintain reliable attendance.

  • Demonstrate willingness to work overtime as needed; significant overtime may be required during busy periods.

  • Possess and apply basic computer skills.

  • Perform all essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

  • Successfully complete company forklift training and maintain a valid Texas driver\u2019s license.

  • Complete daily forklift inspections using the maintenance checklist prior to operation.

  • Ensure cutting and finishing machines are supplied with the correct product to run efficiently.

  • Remove finished product from cutters and ensure it is properly stretch\u2011wrapped and staged in the warehouse or delivered directly to the finishing department as required.

  • Ensure all WIP is properly labeled and stored in appropriate warehouse locations to maintain safety and efficiency.

  • Stretch\u2011wrap additional pallets when the automatic wrapper is backed up.

  • Coordinate with Scheduling to maintain 3-5 days of WIP on hand; stage excess materials for transfer to offsite storage.

  • Work collaboratively with all departments to achieve production and operational goals.


  1. Housekeeping
  • Maintain housekeeping standards throughout the warehouse and assigned areas.

  • Keep equipment clean and in proper operating condition.

  • Fill in for clamp truck drivers as needed.

  • Clean up any spilled pallets, WIP, finished goods, or corrugated materials immediately.

  • Dispose of any food\u2011grade product that has contacted the floor according to quality and GMP requirements.


  1. Quality
  • Follow all Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) at all times.

  • Inspect the warehouse for insects, rodent excreta, and other contaminants.

  • Inspect warehouse walls, ceilings, and doors for damage, holes, or contamination risks.

  • Maintain responsibility for product safety and quality; report any concerns promptly to Senior Management or the Quality Manager.
