How will you make an impact?
The Director of Project Management provides project leadership across FSD for high-priority, complex and cross-functional initiatives across the business. This role is accountable for overall project portfolio performance including prioritization, resource management, financial achievement and is a liaison for divisional/functional management and other all partners. The Leader will perform continuous analysis and monitoring of the project portfolio to identify and communicate issues, risks and opportunities for improvement to FSD leadership. The Leader will also be responsible for leading cross-functional projects and programs with diverse internal teams ranging from Commercial, Operations, Supply Chain, Product Management, Finance, Engineering, Information Technology, Human Resources, and Customer Excellence.
The role works closely with the FSD Leadership team, Project Managers, Project Sponsors, Commercial, Finance and all other stakeholders to continually improve project execution and ensure project investments are prioritized, managed and delivered successfully.
What will you do?
Portfolio Oversight and Governance
Establish project governance for program updates and review with appropriate levels of management
Interface with management to coordinate priorities, communications, and integrate project management as a main feature within functions and projects
Participate in the evaluation and feasibility process for potential projects
Review project inter-dependencies for use in articulating trade-offs with prioritization decisions
Constantly improve and adapt portfolio and project management methodologies
Project Execution
Drive use of BPG’s Project Management methodology and framework throughout projects
Own end to end success of the projects and programs, ensuring accountability, execution of timelines, and continuous change management to deliver on-time results
Facilitate resolution to escalated issues and risks
Develop detailed project/program/portfolio plans to track progress and action logs
Develop and lead the execution of change management plans, including functional training and internal/external communications
Identify key issues and risks, recommend options which are supported by a clear fact set and analysis, facilitate and negotiate individual and team decisions. Requires an understanding of stakeholder motivations, impacts to the organization, and when to escalate issues to higher levels of management
Effectively influence all levels of stakeholders in highly matrixed organization
Support resource measurement/time tracking for business and functional resources assigned to projects
Lead the FSD PMO Organization
Oversee the Project Management Office and direct reports
Manage direct reports and contractor PM’s, including performance reviews, work assignments and time management
Responsible for developing, motivating staff members, and providing guidance on all elements for successful project execution
Consistently demonstrate high standards of integrity by supporting the Thermo Fisher Scientific mission and 4i Values
Lead cultural change of project management
How will you get here?
Bachelor’s degree in science/technical/business discipline with significant Project Management experience
8+ years of project/program management experience with successful project management and execution of large cross functional projects and programs
Strong understanding of formal project management methodologies
Strong analytical and project management skills required, including a thorough understanding of how to interpret business needs and translate them into sound project solutions
Ability to influence at a senior level without direct authority. Identifies problems, answers questions, gain cooperation of others and implement efficient solutions
Experience managing large project/program/portfolio budgets
Experience with managing direct reports
Ability to interface with varied audiences including senior leadership, influence, and to work effectively in a matrix environment across many functional areas (product management, R&D, finance, commercial, operations, HR, etc.)
Ability to manage multiple global projects/programs and interface effectively with team members and across multiple departments, regions, and countries
Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is a plus
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
Ability to work with and present at all levels of the organization.
Strong familiarity with project management standards and methodologies including PMI Body of Knowledge
