School Librarian (Elementary & Middle School)
Position Overview
The School Librarian fosters a love of reading, supports information literacy, and manages library resources for students in grades K--8. This role bridges traditional library services with modern digital tools, ensuring students and staff have access to engaging, age-appropriate materials and research support.
Key Responsibilities
• Library Management
• Organize, catalog, and maintain print and digital collections.
• Create a welcoming, inclusive environment that encourages exploration and learning.
• Implement library policies and procedures for circulation, use, and care of materials.
• Instructional Support
• Teach students how to locate, evaluate, and use information effectively.
• Collaborate with teachers to integrate library resources into classroom instruction.
• Provide age-appropriate lessons on digital citizenship, research skills, and media literacy.
• Student Engagement
• Promote reading through book talks, reading challenges, and author visits.
• Guide students in selecting materials that match their interests and reading levels.
• Support diverse learners with differentiated resources and strategies.
• Technology Integration
• Manage online databases, e-books, and educational technology platforms.
• Train students and staff in the use of digital tools for research and learning.
• Stay current with emerging technologies and recommend innovative practices.
• Collaboration & Leadership
• Partner with faculty to design interdisciplinary projects.
• Serve as a resource for curriculum development and instructional planning.
• Advocate for equitable access to information and resources.
Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Library Science, Education, or related field
• Experience working with children in educational settings.
• Strong communication, organizational, and technology skills.
