Position Summary
Baystate Health is seeking a Full-Time Endoscopy Technician to join our Gastroenterology/Endoscopy team at Baystate Franklin Hospital in Greenfield, MA .
Under the direct, on-site supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) and/or physician, the Endoscopy Technician performs a variety of direct and indirect patient care activities and technical duties in a fast-paced diagnostic and therapeutic gastroenterology setting. This role supports physicians and nursing staff while ensuring high standards of patient safety, infection control, and procedural efficiency.
This position works 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday , with variable start times between 7:00 AM and 10:00 AM (8-hour shifts) . No weekends or on-call responsibilities are required , offering excellent work-life balance.
Key Responsibilities
Patient Care Support
Assist in collecting patient data for objective assessments (e.g., vital signs).
Prepare patients for procedures, including flexible sigmoidoscopy and administration of enemas as directed.
Assist physicians and RNs during diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures.
Respond appropriately to emergency situations under RN/physician direction.
Clinical & Technical Duties
Process and handle specimens according to procedural guidelines.
Perform cleaning and high-level disinfection of endoscopes, procedure rooms, and equipment.
Provide room turnover and technical support between cases.
Maintain equipment and supply inventory, including ordering and restocking.
Documentation & Administrative Support
Complete documentation based on unit needs, including use of clinical information systems (CIS).
Assist with filing, processing charges, and telephone communications as required.
Safety, Compliance & Professional Standards
Maintain a safe environment for patients and staff by adhering to regulatory standards and Baystate Health policies.
Demonstrate knowledge of scope-of-practice standards in gastroenterology.
Comply with ethical, legal, and professional standards, including patient rights.
Participate in continuing education and organizational performance improvement initiatives.
Support special projects and additional responsibilities as assigned by the Unit Manager.
Qualifications
Required
No prior experience required
Successful completion of department orientation program
Demonstrated competency in reading and mathematics (aptitude assessment required)
Preferred
- 6 months to 1 year of experience in a hospital or healthcare setting
