COUNTY OF BROWN Highway Crew Eligibility List in GREEN BAY, Wisconsin

JOB REQUIREMENTS: The Highway Crew member performs skilled and semi-skilled manual labor in the construction, repair, and maintenance of roads, bridges, and highway infrastructure. Work includes operating heavy equipment, performing snow removal, and maintaining right-of-way areas. Duties require physical endurance and the ability to work in diverse weather conditions, including emergency call-outs. Essential Duties Roadway and Bridge Maintenance Operates heavy-duty snowplow trucks, loaders, motor graders, and equipment for snow and ice removal on state, county, town roads, and urban streets. Performs bridge and road repair, including grinding, welding, patching, tar application, air hammer concrete removal, and concrete finishing. Conducts asphalt paving operations including use of paving equipment (paver, roller) and manual asphalt work. Construction Equipment Operation Operates dump trucks to haul materials such as gravel, asphalt, stone, and soils. Uses heavy construction equipment such as excavators, backhoes, motor graders, front-end loaders, scrapers, and tractors during roadway construction and grading. Vegetation and Debris Management Clears brush and trees; removes trash, debris, and rocks; cuts grass and weeds; sprays weeds and other vegetation for growth control; and cleans drainage culverts. Traffic Control and Safety Sets up traffic control signage in work zones. Flags traffic in construction and paving zones to ensure crew and public safety. Non-Essential Duties Performs routine yard and facility maintenance. Assists with emergency response tasks as needed. Performs related duties as assigned. Physical Demands Ability to lift objects up to 75 lbs., with frequent carrying of 50 lbs. Regular standing, walking, sitting, driving, and equipment operation. Frequent bending, crouching, and walking on uneven terrain; occasional twisting, climbing, and reaching. Ability to use hands and feet for pushing/pulling, fine manipulation, and operating controls. Must tolerate exposure to: Weather extremes (heat, cold, rain, snow) Loud noises and vibrations Dust, fumes, and other environmental hazards Brown County is an E-Verify employer. Familiarity with snowplowing techniques using dump trucks and/or motor graders. Ability to operate a wide range of heavy construction and farm equipment. Knowledge of road construction materials (gravel, asphalt, sand, concrete). Ability to plow snow and work extended shifts during snow events (16+ hours). Basic mechanical skills for making field adjustments or minor equipment repairs. Proficiency in welding is a plus. Ability to respond to emergency call-ins promptly.
