Actalent Machine Design Engineer in Grand Rapids, Michigan
Job Description
This role involves working on custom automated equipment, primarily for the automotive industry. Utilizing FEA, GD&T, and 3D CAD, the engineer will collaborate with customers to concept, design, and test complex machines. The position requires working with both mechanical and electrical equipment, including gearboxes, electric motors, and load cells. Additionally, the engineer will support manufacturing and assembly processes, ensuring that timelines are met and making necessary design changes.
Responsibilities
Conceptualize, design, and test custom automated equipment for the automotive industry.
Work closely with customers to meet design specifications and requirements.
Utilize FEA, GD&T, and 3D CAD tools for machine design.
Collaborate with mechanical and electrical components, such as gearboxes, electric motors, and load cells.
Support manufacturing and machine assembly processes to ensure project timelines are met.
Make necessary design changes during the manufacturing process.
Research, quote, and select components for automated equipment.
Essential Skills
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) or equivalent experience.
5-10 years of experience in machine design.
Proficiency in 3D CAD software, such as SolidWorks or Inventor.
Experience with FEA and GD&T.
Knowledge of hydraulics or pneumatics.
Experience with custom automation equipment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience in the automotive industry.
Ability to create and manage a Bill of Materials.
Nice to have: Professional Engineer (PE) license or a Master's Degree in Engineering.
Experience with SolidWorks and automation equipment.
Work Environment
The position is onsite, primarily involving computer-based design work. The engineer will also be required to visit the manufacturing floor daily to ensure projects are running smoothly. The role offers an opportunity to work with a dynamic and growing team in the automotive industry, providing interaction with customers and suppliers to support various projects.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Grand Rapids, MI.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $43.00 - $50.00/hr.
