Robert Half Project Accountant in Grand Prairie, Texas

Description We are looking for an experienced Project Accountant to manage the financial aspects of construction projects from initiation to completion. This position is integral to ensuring accurate financial tracking, compliance with accounting standards, and effective collaboration with project teams. The ideal candidate will have expertise in construction accounting and a strong ability to analyze and report on project finances.

Responsibilities:

• Oversee comprehensive project accounting for multiple active construction initiatives.

• Handle revenue recognition tasks using percentage-of-completion accounting methods and prepare related journal entries.

• Maintain precise job cost reports, forecasts for costs to complete, and margin analyses for projects.

• Process monthly billings, including progress payments, retainage, and adjustments for change orders.

• Reconcile project-related accounts such as accounts receivable and accounts payable.

• Collaborate with Project Managers to monitor budgets, address variances, and assess financial risks.

• Prepare monthly financial forecasts for projects and contribute to both internal and external reporting.

• Assist in month-end and year-end close processes, including audits and financial reviews.

• Ensure adherence to company policies and industry best practices for construction accounting.

• Support initiatives to improve processes and implement system enhancements related to project accounting. Requirements • Minimum of 2–3 years of experience in project accounting, with a focus on construction or engineering industries.

• Proficiency in using percentage-of-completion accounting methods.

• Solid understanding of job cost accounting principles and construction financial reporting.

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field.

• Experience with construction accounting software such as Sage, Viewpoint, JD Edwards, or Oracle.

• Advanced Excel capabilities, including proficiency with pivot tables and financial modeling.

• Strong analytical skills and meticulous attention to detail.

• Ability to collaborate effectively with project teams and leadership to achieve financial objectives.
