Actalent Field Service Engineer in Grand Ledge, Michigan

Job Title: Field Service EngineerJob Description

The Field Service Engineer will travel to customer sites to install and troubleshoot automated foundry equipment, requiring extensive automation knowledge. This role involves PLC troubleshooting and significant travel both nationally and internationally, making up 75% of the year. The engineer must be able to travel to Canada and will handle projects that typically last up to a week. Candidates should have a thorough understanding of hydraulics, pneumatics, electrical systems, and PLCs, and possess excellent customer-facing skills to maintain strong relationships with internal and external employees. The position can be remote for residents of PA and AL, though living outside Michigan will increase travel to over 60% due to customer locations.

Responsibilities

  • Equipment installation, set-up, inspection, service, and maintenance of various product lines in foundry and automotive plants.

  • Run-off of assorted foundry automated equipment and specialized conveyor systems for the automotive industry.

  • Maintain positive relationships with both internal and external customers.

  • Work with Fanuc and Mitsubishi electrical systems.

  • Positively represent the company's interests at customer plants.

Essential Skills

  • Troubleshooting and installation of large industrial equipment.

  • PLC troubleshooting, specifically Allen-Bradley and Siemens.

  • Strong understanding of hydraulics and pneumatics.

  • Ability to travel nationally and internationally, with a schedule of 1 week on-site and 3 weeks on the road, home on weekends.

  • Excellent communication abilities and customer-facing skills, validated through references.

  • Field service engineering and electrical engineering expertise.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

Work Environment

This position requires extensive travel, with a schedule of 1 week on-site and 3 weeks traveling, home for weekends. Work hours are capped at 12 hours per day, unless traveling, with a typical workweek ranging from 45-60 hours. When not traveling, responsibilities include online troubleshooting, documentation, and computer work. The company offers 10 paid holidays, 2 weeks of PTO, and access to Udemy courses after 6 months. Per diem includes up to $60 a day for food: $10 for breakfast, $20 for lunch, and $30 for dinner. Employees receive a company credit card and mileage reimbursement if using their own vehicle.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Grand Ledge, MI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $37.00/hr.
