Mesa County MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN - PARKS - SEASONAL in Grand Junction, Colorado

Repairs, cleans and maintains Mesa County parks, grounds and parking areas. Makes repairs and adjustments to all components of irrigation systems and domestic water systems. Maintains and inspects playground equipment, landscapes, sidewalks and washes. Performs trash removal keeping all County parks and grounds safe, clean, and usable to the general public. May supervise temporary workers, community service workers, and inmate labor.

Maintains irrigation and domestic water systems. Repairs irrigation main and zone line breaks and performs all irrigation head repair. Troubleshoots, repairs and replaces electric valves, battery operated valves, solenoids, time clocks, pumps and backflow preventers. Performs regular inspections of parks, grounds and irrigation systems.

Inspects playground areas and equipment to ensure safety, removes graffiti, repair and replace parts as needed. Cleans and rakes buffer areas.

Maintains sidewalks and entryways. Performs trash removal at all parks and facility locations. Performs parking lot repair and maintenance including vehicle bumper block repair and replacement. Installs, repairs and replaces signs.

Maintains grounds to include planning for seasonal planting and normal upkeep.

Perform snow and ice removal on County walkways, parking lots and parking garage.

Perform general plumbing such as drain repairs, replaces flush valves, fixtures and hardware.

Sets up, arranges lighting, seating and other equipment for special events.

Oversees work of temporary and community service workers and inmates. Schedules contracted cleaning of all parking lots and parking garage.

Performs basic administrative computer-related tasks including working in the Computerized Maintenance Management Systems software.

Oral and written communications must be clear and effective.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

Education and Experience:

High school diploma or equivalent and four (4) years of parks & recreation maintenance related experience.

Any combination of education, training and experience which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities required for the job.

Licenses and Certifications:

Master Gardener Certification (can be obtained after hire)

Forklift certification (can be obtained after hire)

CDL License (desired)

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

This position requires standing, stooping, sitting, bending, twisting, and lifting up to 75 pounds.

The employee is frequently exposed to dirt, smoke, fumes, extreme heat and cold for long duration, outside atmospheric conditions, and dust for sustained periods of time.

The employee is frequently exposed to loud noise.

Carries the Facilities & Parks pager and responds to emergency calls on a regular schedule and as required in emergencies.
