Grambling State University seeks to hire a full- time Maintenance Repairer 2. The Maintenance Repairer 2 performs skilled and semi-skilled maintenance, repair, and renovation work within student housing facilities. This position is responsible for ensuring residence halls, apartments, and common areas are safe, functional, and well-maintained to support a positive living and learning environment for students.

Minimum Qualifications

Two years of experience or training in the building construction trades, building maintenance, maintenance or repair of mechanical equipment, or park operations and grounds maintenance; OR

Completion of a two-year vocational technical program in general building construction, construction technology, or engineering; OR

Twelve semester hours in construction management, construction technology, or engineering, or any combination of these courses.

Job Duties and Other Information

Job Duties:

  • Perform routine and emergency maintenance repairs in residence halls and university owned housing.

  • Diagnose and repair plumbing issues including leaks, clogged drains, toilets, faucets, and minor pipe repairs.

  • Perform electrical repairs such as replacing outlets, switches, light fixtures, and troubleshooting minor electrical issues.

  • Conduct HVAC preventative maintenance and minor repairs (filters, thermostats, belts, basic troubleshooting).

  • Repair and install doors, locks, door closers, hinges, and access hardware.

  • Perform carpentry work including drywall repair, painting, patching, and minor structural repairs.

  • Replace ceiling tiles, flooring materials, and damaged fixtures.

  • Respond promptly to work orders and emergency calls, including after-hours situations when assigned.

  • Assist with room turns between semesters including inspections, repairs, and preparation for occupancy.

  • Support summer projects including renovations, upgrades, and special housing initiatives.

  • Maintain tools and equipment in safe working condition.

  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and university policies.

  • Interact professionally with students, staff, and contractors while working in occupied spaces.

  • Document completed work orders and report major repair needs to supervisor.

  • Other duties as assigned

Appointment Type: Probational

Work Schedule:Work hours are 7:30 am - 5:00 pm Monday - Thursday and 7:30 am - 11:30 am on Fridays.

Compensation:This position is eligible for an Extraordinary Credentials or Experience hire rate.
