Job Title: Maintenance Electrician
Job Description
The Maintenance Electrician safely maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs electrical systems and equipment in a heavy industrial environment. This role requires strong technical expertise with motors, PLCs, and industrial controls, as well as the ability to work autonomously while following all plant safety protocols and PPE requirements. The Maintenance Electrician supports reliable plant operations by diagnosing issues, performing preventive maintenance, and collaborating closely with other maintenance team members.
Responsibilities
Follow all plant safety protocols and procedures, including consistent use of required personal protective equipment (PPE).
Work independently to perform routine electrical maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair tasks with minimal supervision.
Inspect, maintain, and repair electrical equipment such as motors, generators, transformers, rectifiers, switches, circuit breakers, relays, control equipment, communication equipment, electronic and fluid controls, and power distribution systems.
Troubleshoot and repair 480V AC motors, including wiring, testing, and replacing components as needed.
Install, wire, and troubleshoot proximity switches, limit switches, variable speed drives (VSD), and related control devices.
Use PLC ladder logic to diagnose equipment faults, identify faulty electrical devices, and support efficient repairs.
Work with PLC5 and RSLogix to read, interpret, and troubleshoot ladder logic programs for production equipment.
Operate electrical testing and measuring equipment safely and efficiently to diagnose electrical issues and verify repairs.
Handle and use electrical materials and supplies such as wire and cable, insulating materials, replacement parts, solder, paint, and panel board components in a safe and organized manner.
Support the operation, maintenance, and repair of power generation, transmission, and distribution systems within the facility.
Collaborate closely with mechanics and other maintenance personnel to jointly diagnose and resolve equipment issues.
Perform preventive maintenance on electrical systems and equipment to minimize downtime and extend asset life.
Work on overhead cranes, including troubleshooting and maintaining their electrical systems, as needed.
Adapt to rotating or straight day shift schedules and participate in mandatory overtime when operational needs require additional coverage.
Maintain accurate documentation of work performed, including repairs, adjustments, and parts used.
Essential Skills
3–5+ years of experience as an electrician in a heavy industrial environment such as foundry, paper mill, aluminum, or similar settings.
Hands-on experience working on overhead cranes and their electrical systems.
Proficiency with PLCs and ladder logic, including the ability to read and interpret ladder logic to identify malfunctioning electrical devices.
Experience with PLC5 and RSLogix for troubleshooting and supporting automated equipment.
Strong skills in troubleshooting 480V AC motors, including wiring, testing, and repair.
Ability to install, wire, and troubleshoot proximity switches, limit switches, and variable speed drives (VSD).
Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and make sound decisions while performing routine and complex electrical tasks.
Familiarity with the safe handling and operation of electrical equipment, including motors, generators, transformers, rectifiers, switches, circuit breakers, relays, control equipment, communication equipment, and power distribution systems.
Proficient use of electrical testing and measuring equipment for diagnostics and verification of repairs.
Strong commitment to safety and consistent compliance with plant PPE requirements and safety protocols.
Ability to work effectively in a very heavy industrial, non-climate-controlled environment, including extremely hot areas.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Previous experience in heavy industrial environments such as Navy (nuclear), foundry, paper mill, or aluminum facilities is highly beneficial.
Experience with electronic and fluid controls, instruments, panel boards, and related electrical components.
Comfort working with a wide variety of electrical materials, including wire and cable, insulating materials, solder, paint, and replacement parts.
Ability to collaborate closely with mechanics and other maintenance professionals to solve complex equipment issues.
Willingness to work rotating shifts, straight day shifts, and mandatory overtime based on operational requirements.
Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail in a fast-paced production environment.
Job Type & Location
This is a Permanent position based out of Goose Creek, SC.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $65000.00 - $86465.60/yr.
- 9.58% shift differential once they move onto swing shift (Approximately an extra 3/hr)
- They can test every 6 months to test into higher tech level and get pay increase
- Only non-union smelter facility in the U.S
- 401K matches 6%. Benefits start on Day 1 (Full medical, dental and vision coverage – very competitive benefits and multiple options. You can get full copy during interview)
- $300 tool stipend each year
- All uniforms and PPE are provide by company, including prescription safety glasses
- Free clinic onsite for check ups or any issues that happen during the day
- Quarterly bonus up to 10% of what they have made in total that quarter. This is based on company profitability. They currently are averaging 4-6% per quarter o Quarter bonus is tied to attendance.
