    DIRECTOR OF STUDENT SUPPORT

    Position Summary

    The Director of Student Services provides leadership, oversight, and coordination of student support services across the district, with primary responsibility for the administration and compliance of special education programs. This position ensures that all students, particularly those with disabilities or unique needs, receive equitable access to high-quality educational opportunities in alignment with state and federal regulations.

    Primary Responsibilities

    Special Education Oversight (Primary Role)

  • Provide leadership and direction for all special education programs (PK-12) in compliance with IDEA, state regulations, and district policies

  • Supervise special education staff, including teachers, associates, and support personnel

  • Oversee the development, implementation, and monitoring of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)

  • Ensure appropriate evaluation, identification, and placement of students with disabilities

  • Monitor compliance, reporting, and timelines related to special education services

  • Manage special education budget, staffing allocations, and resources

  • Facilitate professional development related to special education best practices and legal requirements

  • Collaborate with building administrators to support inclusive practices and student success

    Student Services Leadership

  • Provide leadership for district-wide student support systems, including MTSS, behavior supports, and intervention services

  • Coordinate services for students with diverse academic, behavioral, and social-emotional needs

  • Support crisis response and student support planning as needed

    504 Coordinator

  • Oversee implementation and compliance of Section 504 plans

  • Ensure appropriate accommodations and supports for eligible students

  • Provide training and guidance to staff regarding 504 requirements

    Title IX Coordinator

  • Ensure district compliance with Title IX regulations

  • Coordinate investigations, documentation, and resolution of Title IX complaints

  • Provide training to staff and students on Title IX policies and procedures

    Equity Coordinator

  • Promote equitable practices across the district to ensure all students have access to opportunities and supports

  • Review district policies, procedures, and data to identify and address equity gaps

  • Provide leadership in fostering an inclusive and supportive school environment

    Alternative Programming Oversight

  • Provide administrative oversight for Thrive Alternative High School

  • Support programming, staffing, and student services within the alternative education setting

  • Ensure alignment with district goals and student success outcomes

    Homeless and Home School Liaison

  • Serve as the district liaison under the McKinney-Vento Act

  • Ensure identification, enrollment, and support for students experiencing homelessness

  • Coordinate services and communication for families participating in home schooling in accordance with Iowa law

    Additional Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with district leadership on strategic planning and continuous improvement efforts

  • Maintain accurate records and ensure timely reporting to state and federal agencies

  • Serve as a resource to families, staff, and community partners

  • Attend IEP meetings, hearings, and other required meetings as needed

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent

    Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Educational Leadership, Special Education, or related field

  • Valid Iowa administrative licensure

  • Endorsement in Special Education preferred

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar district office role

  • Strong knowledge of IDEA, Section 504, Title IX, and related laws and regulations

  • Demonstrated leadership, communication, and organizational skills

  • Ability to lead teams and build collaborative relationships

  • Ability to effectively problem solve and collaboratively work with others of tasks such as special ed. billing, budgeting, staffing, etc.
