County of McLeod Soil Water Conservation District Technician in Glencoe, Minnesota

Job Duties

The Soil & Water Conservation District Technician works with landowners, communities, and government agencies to promote, coordinate, and implement conservation projects and programs within McLeod County. Responsibilities include conducting site investigations, providing technical advice, and assisting with enrollment in conservation programs. The role involves performing fieldwork such as easement site visits, water sampling, and cost-share site inspections, as well as supporting programs like Reinvest in Minnesota (RIM) and Conservation Reserve Enhancement Program (CREP). Additional duties include assisting with the annual tree program, state cost-share program, and rental program, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local standards. The technician also prepares reports, maintains records, and represents the SWCD professionally at meetings and trainings. Other tasks may include educational outreach, program promotion, and supporting district operations as needed.

Minimum Education Required

Applicants must have at least two years of post-secondary education in Agricultural Science, Natural Resources Management, Biology, Ecology, Environmental Studies, or a closely related field. Equivalent combinations of education and experience sufficient to perform the essential functions of the job will also be considered.

Minimum Experience Required

Experience with soil data interpretation, conducting field surveys, designing and planning conservation projects, and general hydrology concepts is required. Preferred candidates will have a degree in a related field and prior experience working with conservation programs or agricultural best management practices.
