Paralegal - Public Defender's Office
Scotts Bluff County Public Defenders office is currently accepting applications for a Paralegal.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: - Draft motions, pleadings, subpoenas, and legal correspondence under attorney supervision; - Conduct legal research and prepare memoranda; review, analyze, and summarize discovery materials, including police reports, witness statements, and evidence; - Organize and prepare case files for hearings and trial; assist attorneys with trial preparation, including exhibit binders and witness coordination; - Conduct client and witness interviews as directed; - Gather mitigation materials for sentencing advocacy; - Prepare subpoenas and coordinate service; track case deadlines and assistance with compliance; maintain confidentiality of all client and case information.
Minimum Qualifications: Associate or bachelors degree in paralegal studies, Criminal Justice, or related field required; Paralegal certification preferred; Two (2) years of legal experience, preferably in criminal law; Experience with legal research platforms (e.g., Westlaw, LexisNexis) preferred; Knowledge of criminal law procedures and court rules; high ethical standards and strict confidentiality. Will be required to become a notary.
Office setting with occasional travel to court, jail facilities, or field locations for case-related activities.
Must be able to pass criminal background check.
