Position Summary

The Community Engagement and Applied Learning Access Coordinator is a new, externally funded position in the Career Design Center. This role focuses on expanding access to integrative and applied learning ( IAL ) experiences that fulfill SUNY Geneseo’s general education requirement. The coordinator will collaborate with faculty, staff, students, and community partners to enhance accessibility, remove barriers, and embed equity-centered practices in all IAL opportunities.

This position will guide students in exploring opportunities that lead to diverse and meaningful career pathways shaped by their interests and workforce demands. The coordinator will cultivate an environment where all students can access, engage in, and prepare for a wide range of professional opportunities.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required

  • Minimum of one year of experience working directly with students.

  • Candidates must demonstrate the ability to apply equity-centered practices in program development, community engagement, and relationship-building. The successful candidate will demonstrate an understanding of systemic barriers impacting historically underrepresented or marginalized populations and the ability to design programs, initiatives, or interventions that promote inclusive participation and equitable access.

  • Candidates for this position must be legally permitted to work in the United States. VISA sponsorship is not allowed.

    Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in higher education, student development, community engagement, or related field preferred.

  • Experience connecting students (college or high school) to applied learning opportunities such as internships, service/service-learning, project-based learning, field studies, clinical placements, or apprenticeships.

  • Prior student-facing work experience in community organizing, non-profit, or higher education settings.

  • Former AmeriCorps members with community engagement experience are strongly encouraged to apply.

  • Familiarity with college career development and career management systems preferred, but not required.

Program Oversight & Coordination

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Empire State Service Corps ( ESSC ) program, including student and site recruitment, placement, and reporting.

  • Coordinate the Career Launch Internship Collective ( CLIC ), an on-campus high-impact internship program that creates pathways for students to gain meaningful professional experience.

  • Administer SUNY internship and applied learning stipends to reduce financial barriers for students pursuing unpaid or underpaid experiences.

  • Track outcomes and prepare SUNY reports related to ESSC and incremental funding.

Community Engagement & Partnerships

  • Organize the Community Engagement Fair and cultivate partnerships with local and regional organizations.

  • Support community-engaged learning initiatives that connect coursework to civic engagement and applied practice.

  • Serve as a liaison connecting students seeking meaningful service experiences with community organizations in need of volunteer support.

  • Meet regularly with students across all majors to provide individualized career coaching, reflective guidance, and support in exploring Integrative and Applied Learning ( IAL ) pathways.

  • Facilitate career coaching sessions that help students connect their curricular, co-curricular, and applied learning experiences to future career possibilities.

  • Develop and deliver workshops that support students in translating their career readiness skills and preparing for diverse professional opportunities.
