Job Description:
At J&J IMSC Geel, a team of 750+ colleagues manufactures active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) for the innovative commercial and clinical portfolio of Johnson & Johnson. We deliver products safely, with high quality, on time and competitively—so patients worldwide can rely on them. As Senior Operations Manager, you lead Plant 3 (including Hydrogenation) and are accountable for supplying products and documentation in line with EHS2, quality, compliance, and customer requirements. You coach and develop leaders and teams in day-to-day performance and long-term talent growth. The plant operates in a 24/7 shift regime; you will be accountable for a team of approximately 100 people. Supported NTS is 6B$.
Main responsibilities:
· Lead the day-to-day operations for Plant 3 and Hydrogenation, ensuring safe, reliable, and compliant execution.
· Drive performance against key metrics for Safety, Environment, Quality & Compliance, Reliability, and Cost, aligned with site and global strategy. Proactively identify and address risks to commitments; review operating/production data and sponsor effective problem-solving.
· Champion Safety and Quality initiatives, and lead with a servant-leader mindset in close partnership with support functions. Build and sustain strong safety, health, environment, and quality awareness across plant teams, including standards for housekeeping and disciplined operations.
· Introduce new products in partnership with MSAT, ensuring smooth tech transfer and sustainable routine manufacturing.
· Own deviations and investigations and ensure timely, effective corrective and preventive actions (CAPA). Be accountable for timely batch release in line with quality and customer requirements.
· Partner with risk management and technical teams to maintain a robust risk and control framework, ensuring safe and compliant operations and business continuity.
· Drive cost competitiveness and a continuous improvement culture, using data and lean problem-solving to deliver sustainable results.
· P&L and budgeting responsibilities for Plant 3.
· Role-model the Credo and J&J values in everyday decisions and leadership behaviors.
· Builds a culture of high engagement, collaboration and ownership at all levels in the organization.
· Drives people and operational organization development and plays key role in hiring and developing people.
What are we looking for?
· Master degree in Chemistry or Engineering, or equivalent through experience
· At least 10 years working experience, in the Chemical/Pharmaceutical industry.
· Strong mindset for Health and Safety and Environment regulations and guidelines.
· Strong quality mindset and compliance orientation. Clear understanding of compliance requirements (cGMP and other specific legislation/guidelines applicable to the API, internal J&J requirements & guidelines)
· Engaging people leader with previous experience in leading teams.
· Excellent communicator, able to build a network and create win-win solutions both in internal, cross departmental and cross site contacts.
· Strong analytical thinking, risk assessment and decision-making skills
