Southland Industries Senior Payroll Tax Accountant in Garden Grove, California

Position Summary

The Sr. Payroll Tax Accountant will be assisting the Lead Tax Accountant in ensuring the timely and accurate tax reporting, compliance, liabilities, and the filing of associated employment tax returns for multiple FEINS, and in multiple States/Localities for all Southland Industries’ entities via Third Party Tax Services/ADP. You will also ensure the integrity of employee wage and tax data reported on employees’ Form W-2.

Position Details

Your Responsibilities:

  • Reconcile daily tax and wage data with Third-Party Tax Services/ADP and resolve discrepancies, including monthly, quarterly, and annual gross-to-taxable wage reconciliations and file validations.

  • Research and process W-2 corrections, including preparing, submitting, and distributing W-2c forms for approval.

  • Manage tax notices with Third-Party Tax Services/ADP, ensuring timely resolution, root cause analysis, and implementation of corrective actions. Maintain unemployment tax rate tables and communicate updates.

  • Support registration of new state SUI and withholding tax accounts and ensure accurate state/local payroll tax setups.

  • Respond to payroll tax inquiries from agencies, employees, and internal/external stakeholders.

  • Stay current on federal, state, and local tax regulations, including fringe benefits, and ensure compliance.

  • Support payroll tax system implementations, upgrades, and process improvements.

  • Assist Payroll teams with multi-state tax setups and troubleshooting payroll/tax interface issues.

  • Support end-to-end payroll processing and assist with issue resolution as needed.

  • Contribute to process improvements, automation, and efficiency initiatives.

  • Maintain financial records, perform account reconciliations, ensure GAAP compliance, and provide customer service to internal and external stakeholders.

Employee Support:

  • Respond to internal and external customer inquiries in a timely manner.

  • Address and resolve complex payroll tax related inquiries and concerns from employees.

  • Provide guidance on payroll policies and procedures as needed.

  • Assist with educating employees on payroll tax related topics and changes.

Systems Management:

  • Maintain and update payroll system’s tables and employee records as needed.

  • Assist in the implementation and maintenance of payroll software. This includes testing, table updates, and overall maintenance and support.

  • Collaborate with IT and HR departments to resolve system issues as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance or equivalent experience preferred.

  • Minimum of 2 plus years of payroll tax experience with multiple state/local tax jurisdictions and with large volume of employees.

  • ADP work experiencea plus.

  • 5 plusyears of payroll experience, full-cycle payroll processingand with multi-state payrolls.

  • In-depth understanding of payroll practices, tax regulations, and wage and hour laws.

  • Experience and proficiency in in-house payroll processing.

  • Experience with systems such as (e.g., ADP, Dayforce, UKG or In-House/Non Outsourced processing software.)

  • COINS ERP software knowledge is a plus.

  • Strong interpersonal and service-oriented skills in interactions with customers and colleagues.An ability to interface with all levels of employees.

  • Strong Team collaboration skills, and the ability to function as a member of a team. Able to transfer knowledge to junior level staff

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, and the ability to multi-task.

  • Strong analytical skills. Attention to detail and accuracy and innovative problem-solving resolution skills.

  • Computer proficiency and technical aptitude with intermediate to expert level ability to utilizeEXCEL, MSWord, etc.

  • Good verbal, written and active listening communication skills.

  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.

  • Proven ability to meet tight deadlines and work under pressure

  • Experience with external audits.

  • Ability to remain flexible in a rapidly changing environment

  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision

Pay: Final pay is determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data. For (Colorado/New York City/California/Washington/Maryland) this ranges from $75,000.00 - $85,000.00 plus annual incentive, benefits, and retirement program as outlined above.
