Job Title: Heavy Equipment Operator – Southern Division

Job Description

This role operates heavy equipment on outdoor construction sites as part of a pipe crew, with a primary focus on excavator and loader work. The operator safely performs backfilling in controlled lifts, moves materials such as gravel and pipe, and uses a roller to achieve proper compaction while maintaining a clean and organized job site as work progresses.

Responsibilities

  • Operate excavators and front-end loaders to perform backfilling in controlled lifts according to project specifications and safety standards.

  • Use a roller to compact soil and materials to required densities and tolerances.

  • Carry and transport gravel, pipe, and other construction materials safely and efficiently around the job site.

  • Dress and finish work areas as the project progresses, maintaining a clean, orderly, and professional appearance of the site.

  • Support pipe crew activities by positioning equipment and materials to facilitate efficient installation work.

  • Operate additional equipment such as backhoes and dozers as needed, within skill and safety guidelines.

  • Follow all site safety procedures and equipment operating guidelines to prevent accidents and damage.

  • Communicate effectively with the pipe crew and site supervisors to coordinate tasks and ensure smooth workflow.

  • Inspect equipment before use, report any issues, and contribute to basic care and upkeep of assigned machinery.

  • Work outdoors in varying weather conditions while maintaining productivity and attention to detail.

Essential Skills

  • At least 4 years of experience operating an excavator in a construction environment.

  • At least 4 years of experience operating a front-end loader in a construction environment.

  • Proficiency in backfilling in controlled lifts with both excavators and loaders.

  • Ability to operate a roller for compaction work.

  • Experience carrying and placing gravel, pipe, and other construction materials with heavy equipment.

  • Demonstrated ability to maintain a clean and properly dressed job site as work progresses.

  • Strong focus on safety and adherence to site operating procedures.

  • Ability to work effectively as part of a pipe crew on outdoor construction projects.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience operating a backhoe is a plus.

  • Experience operating a dozer is a plus.

  • Any additional heavy equipment operating experience is considered an asset.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Gambrills, MD.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $26.00/hr.
