Youth are assigned to the Crisis Stabilization Unit (CSU) upon a determination of mental health concerns accompanied with aggressive, self-harm, and/or suicidal behaviors.Performs highly advanced (senior-level) work supervising the CSU/MHTP/BSU youth development coaches (coaches); oversees the direct care operations for the CSU, MHTP (Mental Health Treatment Program), and BSU (Behavior Stabilization Unit) dorms at the Giddings and Ron Jackson campuses; and the direct care staff and a regular team leader for those programs/dorms. Work involves establishing and maintaining a positive culture; implementing the Texas Model of trauma-informed corrections; and leading and developing the teamPerformance of duties involves:and#183; collaborating with the superintendent, assistant superintendent, and the CSU/MHTP/BSU leadership team to understand and promote the vision and direction of the department;and#183; establishing and maintaining a positive dorm culture built on teamwork, coaching, and caring for youth;and#183; ensuring development of coaches and dorm culture in Texas Model concepts;and#183; maintaining presence on the dorm;and#183; active coaching for coaches on appropriate Texas Model engagement, activities, and interventions;and#183; providing oversight, coaching, and observing all shifts;and#183; ensuring facilitation of youth nurture groups and activities;and#183; ensuring daily schedule and activities are followed, including nurture groups;and#183; ensuring weekly dorm leadership meeting occurs involving case manager, senior coaches and the Nurse Program Manager, when available;and#183; providing technical assistance, training and direction to coaches;and#183; ensuring compliance with laws, rules, regulations, policies, procedures, and standards relating to dorm safety, youth movement, on-the-job training, and related operations and programs;and#183; planning, prioritizing, and scheduling dorm activities;and#183; ensuring youth service team meetings occur per policy;and#183; analyzing and using data to make and support decisions and make recommendations to improve programs and operations as well as to staff and schedule the dorm properly, understand trends related to violence, use of force, staff presence, and other indicators that can provide information regarding the and#8220;healthand#8221; of the dorm and its culture;and#183; exhibiting and encouraging creativity in group activities used for regulation practice, life skills, and recreation, properly using agency guides and materials and sharing new ideas with leadership that may help other dorms;and#183; leading the team and youth to develop their own dorm identity, appropriate rituals and celebrations, and other concepts that create a sense of welcome and belonging for both staff and youth;and#183; representing the dorm during staff and special meetings and providing relevant information regarding the dormand#8217;s operations and activities with the program supervisor, facility compliance officer, and facility administrators;and#183; acting as the dormand#8217;s liaison with representatives of various facility programs and other community and juvenile justice agencies;and#183; ensuring adequate coach shift supervision and providing direct supervision of coaches and youth during periods of staff shortage or during emergencies; andand#183; providing support, leadership, and direction as needed during crisis at facility.Works in close partnership with a variety of service providers and treatment program staff to ensure youth availability to all treatment programs. Serves as campus shift administrator on a rotational basis.Works under minimal supervision, with extensive latitude to use initiative and independent judgment. May be required to work in excess of 40 hours per workweek, be on-call, and occasional travel.ESSENTIAL DUTIESProvides oversight, leadership, training and technical assistance to coaches in the performance of their duties; promotes ethical leadership, excellent performance, confidentiality, a positive working environment, and professional development; monitors performance of duties; provides verbal and written feedback, coaching, and mentoring, all in accordance with the Texas Model; conducts performance reviews of supervised staff; reviews and approves performance evaluations completed for coaches; initiates or takes corrective personnel actions as necessary.Proactiv
