Job Description
Role Summary
The Fire Alarm Technician is responsible for the installation, programming, testing, servicing, and troubleshooting of fire alarm systems across commercial job sites. This role works closely with Star Life Safety leadership, project managers, and electricians to ensure systems are installed to code and customer expectations.
Key Responsibilities
• Install, program, test, and troubleshoot fire alarm systems in commercial environments
• Perform system startups, commissioning, inspections, and final acceptance testing
• Read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, and device layouts
• Work directly with project managers to meet schedules and job requirements
• Coordinate with electricians and other trades on active job sites
• Troubleshoot system issues and perform service calls as needed
• Maintain accurate documentation and service reports
• Adhere to NFPA standards, local AHJ requirements, and company safety policies
• Adhere to OSHA safety standards and project/customer safety requirements
• Perform NFPA annual inspections
• Ability to perform service calls on existing fire alarm systems including troubleshooting and interfacing with customers
• Good customer service skills

Skills and Requirements
• 3+ years of hands-on fire alarm experience
• Experience installing and/or programming fire alarm panels
• Experience performing electrical troubleshooting on fire alarm systems/circuits
• Strong understanding of low-voltage electrical systems
• Ability to read blueprints and wiring schematics
• Comfortable working on ladders, lifts, and active construction sites
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to customer sites throughout NC • NICET I or II (or actively working toward certification)
• Experience with common fire alarm manufacturers (Edwards/Kidde, Siemens, Fire-Lite, etc.)
• Previous experience with inspections, service work, or AHJ interactions
