National Park Service Maintenance Worker Leader in Fruita, Colorado
Summary This position is a working leader assigned responsibility for building and utility maintenance work. The position provides daily direction to at least three (3) workers to accomplish trades work on a regular and recurring part of the job and exercised on a substantially full time and continuing basis. The highest level of work led is at the WG-08 level. Responsibilities Maintains current knowledge, and answers questions of other workers on procedures, policies, written instructions, and other directives. Passes on to other workers the instructions received from the supervisor by assigning daily tasks to individuals of the work group. Demonstrates proper work methods and works along with others to set a work pace. Ensures necessary plans, materials, supplies, equipment and tools are available when needed. Recommends operation needs per work requests to the supervisor. Answers workers questions or obtains needed information or decisions from supervisor on problems that arise during the process of the project. Checks work in progress and upon completion to determine/ensure supervisors instructions are being followed and to meet deadlines. Reports progress and delays to supervisor and on overall operations and problems. Ensures safety and housekeeping rules are followed. Answers questions of supervisors on overall work operations and problems. Physical Effort: Works from ladders, scaffolds and platforms. Where surfaces are to be coated, or the parts of systems worked on are hard to reach requiring incumbent to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts, carries and sets up parts and equipment that weigh up to 50 pounds. Working Conditions: The work is done inside and outside where dirt, spray, and fumes are present. Also required to work in extreme weather conditions and/or wear protective equipment and clothing that are sometimes heavy and uncomfortable. Frequently exposed to the potential risk of broken bones, shock, burns, cuts and bruises. If the position performs water or wastewater treatment operations duties, must possess and maintain the State's required certification or license. Area Information: Colorado National Monument is one of the grand landscapes of the American West, centrally located between Fruita and Grand Junction in the heart of Western Colorado. The Grand Valley (Fruita, Grand Junction, and Palisade) has a population of approximately 150,000 people and includes multiple options for all services. Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication. Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program. You will be required to submit to a drug test and receive a negative drug test result prior to appointment. In addition, this position is subject to random testing for illegal drug use. You will be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle; a valid driver's license is required. You will be required to submit a Motor Vehicle Operator's License and Driving Record. You must also submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities), and at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that disclose all valid driver's licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you. You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided. You may be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime and shift work. You must possess and maintain a current Water Distribution Treatment Operators Certificate AND Wastewater Treatment Operators Certificate, and you must be able to secure and maintain a valid Colorado (CO) Department of Health Services Class 2 Certificate within 180 days of Enter on Duty (EOD). You must possess and maintain a Contracting Officer's Representative (COR) within 180 days of Enter on Duty (EOD). You may be required to travel overnight away from home. You must obtain a government charge card for travel purposes. Government Charge Card: You may be required to complete training and obtain/maintain a government charge card with travel and/or purchase authority. Applicants must be at least (1)18 years old or (2) at least 16 years old and: (a) Have graduated from high school or been awarded a certificate equivalent to graduating from high school; or (b) Have completed a formal vocational training program; or (c) Have received a statement from school authorities agreeing with their preference for employment rather than continuing their education; or (d) Be currently enrolled in a secondary school and either work only during school vacation periods or work part-time during the school year under a formal student employment program. This probationary OR trial period is an extension of the appointment process and therefore requires the agency to determine if continued employment would advance the public interest, meet the organization goals and mission of the agency, and/or otherwise promote the efficiency of the service. Additional Information This announcement may be used to fill additional positions if identical vacancies occur within 90 days of the issue date of the referral certificate. Career-Seasonal appointments are permanent positions and include the same benefits as Career appointments, but do not provide work on a year-round basis. You will work approximately 11.5 months in pay status and you will be in a non-pay status 2 weeks (ranging from early-October to mid-October) depending on weather. Documentation for the Land Management Workforce Flexibility Act (LMWFA) eligibility, submission of ALL SF-50s and performance information for each period of temporary/term employment that qualifies for LMWFA. Performance documentation can be obtained by contacting the supervisors for the positions you served in during your 24 months. If they did not complete performance appraisals ask them to provide a statement of performance for each period of service. The statement must specify the dates for each employment period and your level of performance (dates should match the dates on the SF-50s).
