Position Summary
The Senior Manager of EMS/Contract Manufacturing Commodity Management is responsible for developing and executing global sourcing strategies for the company’s contract manufacturing (CM) and electronics manufacturing services (EMS) partners. This role ensures optimal supplier performance, cost competitiveness, supply continuity, and strategic alignment with business objectives. The ideal candidate will lead a small team of sourcing professionals, partners cross-functionally with operations, engineering, quality, and finance, and manage key supplier relationships across multiple regions.
Key Responsibilities
· Strategic Sourcing & Category Management
o Develop and implement global sourcing strategies for EMS and contract manufacturing categories to achieve cost, quality, and service objectives.
o Negotiate complex agreements, including pricing, capacity commitments, supply assurance, and performance metrics.
o Monitor market trends and industry dynamics affecting EMS and contract manufacturing to inform sourcing decisions.
· Supplier Relationship Management
o Own executive-level relationships with key EMS and CM partners.
o Drive quarterly business reviews (QBRs) focusing on performance, innovation, and risk management.
o Resolve escalated operational or commercial issues to ensure seamless supply.
· Cost & Performance Management
o Lead cost-reduction and value-engineering initiatives in partnership with engineering and operations.
o Develop and manage total cost of ownership (TCO) models to identify savings opportunities.
o Track supplier performance using KPIs across cost, delivery, quality, and service.
o Monitor cost impact and total contributions to the business
· Cross-Functional Leadership
o Collaborate with product development, manufacturing, and finance to ensure alignment of procurement strategies with business goals.
o Support new product introductions (NPIs) through early supplier engagement and capacity readiness.
o Contribute to supply chain risk assessments and mitigation planning.
o Ability to effectively present to internal/supplier senior leadership your sourcing strategies and business updates on a routine basis
· Team Development
o Coach, mentor, and develop a team of sourcing managers or specialists.
o Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and collaboration.
o Recruit, hire and train staff while maintaining strong growth and providing best in class execution
Qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Engineering, Business, or a related field; MBA or equivalent preferred.
· 10–15+ years of progressive experience in strategic sourcing, procurement, or supply chain management, with a min of 7 years focused global EMS/Contract Manufacturing management.
· Strong background in high-tech, complex products managing multiple global EMS sources.
· Proven negotiation and contract management expertise with global suppliers.
· Strong analytical, communication, and leadership skills with the ability to influence across multiple levels and functions.
· Global direct report management experience.
· Experience managing cross-functional teams and global supplier relationships.
· Proficiency in supply chain systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Coupa) and analytics tools (e.g., Power BI, Excel).
· International/Domestic travel will be required.
Preferred Attributes
· Familiarity with PCBA, electromechanical assemblies, and system integration manufacturing. Specific knowledge in SMT / MFG. processes to ensure BIC rates/times are being used for optimum costs.
· Experience working with global Teir 1 EMS providers with global direct fulfillment experience.
· Understanding of regulatory and compliance requirements across global regions.
· Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, matrixed, and global environment.
· Ability to perform at a high level with limited supervision
· Drive best-in-class processes for the SCM team. Mentor staff to possibly enhance current processes in order to successfully meet or exceed the planned >40% growth projected for the next several years.
This position will be subject to U.S. export control requirements under the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and/or Export Administration Regulations (EAR). Employment is contingent on either verifying the U.S. Person status or obtaining any necessary export license.
