Actalent Systems Engineer in Frederick, Maryland
Job Title: Systems Engineer
Lead end‑to‑end systems engineering for advanced SIGINT, electronic warfare, and radio communication platforms across airborne, ground, surface, and man‑portable systems. Primary focus on requirements decomposition, architecture development, and environmental qualification, with additional support for RF integration, modeling and simulation, and lab and field testing.
Job Responsibilities
Lead systems engineering efforts focused on requirements and architecture, including requirements decomposition, traceability, and management for complex SIGINT, EW, and communication platforms
Decompose and manage system requirements; develop system and subsystem architectures
Build and maintain engineering artifacts, including integration and test plans and software test plans
Define and control hardware/software interfaces and Interface Control Documents (ICDs)
Plan, execute, and document MIL‑STD‑810 environmental testing
Perform hands‑on integration and troubleshooting of RF hardware with embedded systems in a laboratory environment
Utilize spectrum analyzers, waveform generators, and other RF diagnostic tools (including Signal Hound spectrum analyzers) to resolve hardware and software interface issues
Support lab and field testing; document results and trade studies
Top Skills
Strong systems engineering practices, including designing to requirements and maintaining traceability from requirements through verification
Experience with systems design, requirements definition, and requirements management
RF systems and fundamentals, including theory, propagation, and modulation
Proficiency with laboratory RF test equipment (spectrum analyzers, signal generators)
Clear technical documentation and cross‑functional communication
Additional Skills
Programming literacy: Python and/or C++ for data analysis, test automation, or basic embedded troubleshooting
Lab proficiency: diagnosing hardware/software interface issues using RF test equipment
RF experience with systems involving radar, cameras, weapon systems, RF subsystems, radio communications, vision systems, or airborne platforms
Defense and aerospace industry experience preferred (particularly in RF, radar, SIGINT/EW, and surveillance/reconnaissance systems for manned or unmanned platforms)
Standards knowledge: MIL‑STD‑810; MIL‑STD‑461 (EMI/EMC) a significant plus
Systems tools: MATLAB/Simulink; MBSE tools (Cameo, MagicDraw) a plus, not required
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Systems, Aerospace, Computer, or related Engineering
Minimum of 2+ years of engineering design experience with exposure to systems engineering requirements, integration, and test
U.S. citizenship and eligibility for a security clearance
Work Environment
Primarily lab‑ and office‑based role
Frequent use of RF test equipment (spectrum analyzers, signal generators, waveform generators, diagnostic tools)
Regular use of MATLAB/Simulink, Python, C++, and MBSE platforms where applicable
Close collaboration with cross‑functional teams developing integrated surveillance and reconnaissance systems across airborne, ground, surface, and man‑portable platforms
10–20% travel for field and range testing

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Frederick, MD.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $54.00/hr.
