Marvelous Support Inc Direct Support Professional (DSP) in Frederick, Maryland

This role provides hands-on support to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities to promote health, safety, community inclusion, and self-determination in alignment with their Person-Centered Plans (PCPs) and DDA waiver requirements. The DSP helps the agency meet COMAR staffing and training requirements while upholding DDA Participant Rights and CQL quality of life principles.

Key responsibilities

Person-centered support and daily living

  • Implement each persons PCP and agency service plans by providing individualized supports in home and community settings, consistent with COMAR staffing expectations tied to the Individual Plan (IP/PCP).
  • Support people with activities of daily living (ADLs) and instrumental ADLs (personal care, meal preparation, household tasks, transportation) in ways that maximize independence and choice, consistent with HCBS person-centered requirements.
  • Facilitate community integration, relationship-building, and participation in meaningful activities in line with COMAR training content (community integration, inclusion, and outcome-oriented planning).
  • Use person-centered strategies to support communication, preferences, and self-advocacy consistent with DDA Participant Rights and CQLs emphasis on dignity, respect, and decision-making.

Health, safety, and risk management

  • Monitor and respond to health and safety needs, including following risk plans, behavior support plans, and emergency procedures consistent with COMAR and any applicable service-specific staffing and training regulations.
  • Administer or support medication administration only as permitted by Maryland law and agency policy, and only after completion of required DDA/COMAR training.
  • Immediately report suspected abuse, neglect, exploitation, serious injuries, and other reportable incidents in accordance with DDAs Policy on Reportable Incidents and Investigations (PORII) and COMAR incident obligations.
  • Implement infection control practices and blood-borne pathogen precautions as required by COMAR.

Documentation and communication

  • Accurately document services delivered, progress notes, data collection, and other required information in accordance with DDA waiver documentation requirements and agency policies tied to COMAR conditions of participation.
  • Record and communicate changes in health, behavior, or circumstances promptly to supervisors, nursing, and other team members, supporting the licensees obligation to maintain adequate staffing and oversight under COMAR.
  • Assist in maintaining participant records and logs to support OHCQ surveys, DDA monitoring, and internal quality assurance activities.

Rights, advocacy, and CQL values

  • Support and protect participant rights, including privacy, dignity, freedom from abuse/neglect, and access to grievance procedures, in alignment with DDA Participant Rights and Responsibilities.
  • Encourage and support individuals to exercise choice (e.g., daily routines, community activities, relationships) in ways that match CQLs personal outcome measures and COMAR training content on individual-directed, outcome-oriented planning.
  • Participate in person-centered meetings and contribute observations that help refine supports, risk plans, and outcomes.
