Position Summary The Threader Operator is responsible for setting up, operating, and monitoring thread-rolling or thread-cutting machines used to produce threaded fasteners or components to customer specifications. This role ensures product accuracy, machine efficiency, and quality standards while maintaining a safe and clean work environment.
Key Responsibilities
Machine Operation & Setup
- Set up and operate thread-rolling, thread-cutting, or thread-forming machines (e.g., flat-die, cylindrical die, or single-point threaders).
- Adjust machine settings, tooling, dies, and guides according to job specifications.
- Load raw materials and ensure proper alignment and feed rate.
- Perform first-piece inspections and validate dimensions before beginning full production runs.
Quality Assurance
- Inspect parts using gauges, micrometers, calipers, and thread inspection tools (e.g., GO/NO-GO gauges, ring gauges).
- Monitor machine output for consistency, finish quality, and thread accuracy.
- Document inspection results and complete production reports.
- Identify defects, make necessary machine adjustments, or notify supervisor of abnormalities.
Maintenance & Safety
- Perform routine machine maintenance such as cleaning, lubrication, and minor adjustments.
- Replace worn dies, tooling, or components as needed.
- Follow all safety guidelines including lockout/tagout, PPE, and machine guarding procedures.
- Maintain a clean and organized workstation.
Production Efficiency
- Work with production team to meet or exceed daily output goals.
- Monitor machine cycles and troubleshoot operational issues.
- Minimize scrap by ensuring correct setup and proper handling of materials.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Prior experience in manufacturing or machine operation preferred.
- Experience operating thread-rolling or thread-cutting machines is a plus.
Skills & Abilities
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, work orders, and specification sheets.
- Strong mechanical aptitude with ability to troubleshoot equipment.
- Proficient in using measuring tools and performing basic math.
- Attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods.
Work Environment
- Manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, oils, moving machinery, and standing for long periods.
- May require overtime, weekends, or shift work based on production needs.
Performance Indicators
