Max Mothes Material Planning and Logistics Specialist in Fraser, Michigan
Position Summary The Material Planning and Logistics Specialist is responsible for planning, coordinating, and controlling the flow of raw materials, work-in-process, and finished goods to support efficient production and on-time customer delivery. This role ensures material availability, inventory accuracy, and effective logistics execution while minimizing costs and disruptions.
Key Responsibilities
Material Planning
- Plan and schedule material requirements based on production schedules, forecasts, and customer demand
- Monitor inventory levels to ensure optimal stock while preventing shortages or excess
- Generate and manage purchase requisitions and material releases
- Coordinate with purchasing and production teams to align material availability with manufacturing needs
- Analyze usage trends and adjust planning parameters as required
Logistics & Inventory Control
- Coordinate inbound and outbound logistics, including freight scheduling and carrier communication
- Track material movements and ensure accurate inventory transactions in the ERP/MRP system
- Conduct cycle counts and support physical inventories
- Resolve inventory discrepancies and root-cause issues
- Ensure proper storage, handling, and identification of materials
Production & Cross-Functional Support
- Communicate material status, shortages, and risks to production and management
- Support production scheduling changes and expedite materials when required
- Collaborate with quality, engineering, and suppliers to address material issues
- Maintain documentation related to material planning, logistics, and compliance
Continuous Improvement & Compliance
- Identify opportunities to improve material flow, inventory turns, and logistics efficiency
- Support lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives
- Ensure compliance with company policies, safety standards, and applicable regulations
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business, or related field preferred
- 2--5 years of experience in material planning, logistics, or inventory control in a manufacturing environment
- Experience in fastener, metal forming, or industrial manufacturing preferred
Skills & Competencies
- Strong understanding of MRP/ERP systems and inventory management principles
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and data analysis
- Proficiency in SAP and PLEX software
- Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Detail-oriented with strong follow-through
Physical & Work Requirements
- Ability to work in an office and manufacturing environment
- Occasional lifting up to 25 lbs
- Standing, walking, and computer work as required
