Aetna is seeking for an Executive Director, National Medicare External Distribution, to provide leadership across multiple Medicare sales and account management functions. This role is responsible for addressing and resolving highly complex business challenges that affect enterprise-wide sales support processes. The Executive Director will design and execute strategies and actionable plans to drive successful sales of Aetna Medicare Supplement, Ancillary and Medicare Advantage products across target markets, business lines, and segments. Additionally, this position sets strategic priorities and establishes the long-term direction for accounts and functions within the scope of responsibility.
Key Responsibilities
Leads National Medicare Supplement and Ancillary accounts as senior team representative and staff leader for assigned products, regions or sales channel(s).
Delivers sales strategy and performance measures in line with company, segment, region, and market goals from assigned scope.
Designs and implements the annual and long-term strategic direction for accounts and in line departments.
Partners with key business leaders across the organization to develop and execute business strategy and key initiatives within the scope of sales organization.
Ensues sales forecasting, achievement of sales, membership growth and retention, in compliant, data-driven and organizational goal boundaries.
Cultivates and maintain strong business relationships with all national partners within scope.
Provides model leadership to help partners grow and improve by having deep and data-driven business relationships.
Recruits, attracts, and retains a diverse and high performing workforce, engaging and developing them through mentoring, coaching, and making available tools and resources.
Aligns resources to support achievement of Key Performance Metrics in concert with business, financial, operations and regulatory pillars.
Works collaboratively with other business segments on sales, distribution, and compensation strategies.
Takes leadership role on strategic initiatives that impact the segment’s financial and strategic objectives.
Ensures compliance with Aetna’s policies; authorizes appropriate exceptions based on business needs.
Analyzes competitive environment to support and improve pricing, underwriting and product development strategies as well as service approach and sales efforts.
Communicate with internal and external parties telephonically and/or in person.
Required Qualifications
The candidate will have a strong work ethic, be a self-starter, and be able to be highly productive in a dynamic, collaborative environment. This position offers broad exposure to all aspects of the company’s business, as well as significant interaction with all the business leaders. The candidate will be expected to have the following key attributes:
12+ years of sales and account management experience with demonstrated leadership in sales strategy development and execution, accountability, and innovative sales approaches.
5+ years of sales management experience and proven track record of building a successful team.
Experience with Medicare Supplement and Ancillary products. Medicare Advantage product knowledge a strong plus.
Carrier leadership and/or broker sales experience required with director level or above experience.
Exceptional strategic, communications, analytical skills with accompanying Microsoft suite sales to deliver data and presentations at highest level.
Licensure as required by state.
Exceptional executive‑level communication and presentation skills.
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple complex initiatives simultaneously.
Ability to travel up to 30%.
Preferred Qualifications
- Direct experience with existing national account base in Medicare Supplement, Ancillary and/or Medicare Advantage segments.
Education
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience

Pay Range
The typical pay range for this role is:
$120,800.00 - $265,914.00
This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors.
