Job Title: Data Engineer
Job Description
As a Data Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and engineering data lakes by identifying data sources, extracting data, modeling data, and designing data stores. You will also govern the data architecture, develop data flows to manage structured and unstructured data, and build refined data assets for business intelligence and AI enablement. Additionally, you will implement efficient patterns for data storage and enable automation capabilities for data privacy, protection, and security.
Responsibilities
Design and develop data lakes with a focus on data source identification, extraction, and modeling.
Develop data flows to ingest and transform both structured and unstructured data using warehousing and big data methodologies.
Implement efficient data storage, partitioning, and metadata structures to facilitate data consumption.
Enable automation for governance features related to data privacy, inventory, cataloging, and security.
Enhance observability, cost management, and reporting for data engineering operations.
Build integration testing and quality assurance capabilities, ensuring compliance with architectural standards.
Perform assessments and proofs of concept for new tools and technologies.
Lead, mentor, and support Data Delivery teams with methodologies, tools, and technical knowledge.
Essential Skills
Minimum 6 years of experience in technical roles focusing on data engineering.
At least 3 years of hands-on experience with AWS services such as S3, KMS, Lambda, Glue (or Spark), SQS, EventBridge, and AWS Step Functions.
Experience in writing clean, modular, testable, and maintainable code using functional or OOP principles.
Strong understanding of AWS networking concepts, including VPC, subnets, routing, NAT gateways, and security groups.
Proficiency in IAM concepts such as roles, policies, assume-role, and cross-account access.
Strong SQL skills, including complex joins, window functions, and aggregations.
Experience with Redshift and/or Athena or other distributed compute engines.
Experience in writing and maintaining Terraform scripts.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Proficiency in at least one programming language such as Python, Scala, etc.
Understanding of Spark architecture, execution plans, and performance tuning.
Familiarity with Git, GitHub workflows, and CI/CD tools like Jenkins.
Hands-on experience with data governance, cataloging, and discovery tools such as AWS Glue and Lake Formation.
Exposure to data lake architectures and data governance practices.
Experience with the implementation of monitoring and logging.
Advanced knowledge of cloud and on-premises NoSQL database structures, including AWS DynamoDB and MongoDB.
Knowledge of Data Management, Integration, and Data Quality tools using no-code, low-code, and code-first methodologies.
Work Environment
The role involves working with advanced technologies and tools in a dynamic environment. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, utilizing AWS services and other modern data engineering tools. The position demands strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Job Type & Location
This is a Permanent position based out of Franklin, TN.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $115000.00 - $170000.00/yr.
