Role Summary :

The Expert Backup Engineer is responsible for architecting, modernizing, and maintaining enterprise backup and recovery solutions with a strong focus on automation, process improvement, and DevOps principles. This role combines deep backup expertise with the ability to manage and enhance an existing Python-based code base, driving innovation and efficiency in backup operations. The engineer partners with cross-functional teams to define strategies, implement improvements, and ensure the protection, integrity, and recoverability of mission-critical data across diverse platforms.

What You Will Do:

  • Bring prior experience to organize and define work for complex or ambiguous situations.

  • Provide consultation, training, and knowledge sharing to associates.

  • Lead automation activities within team leveraging Ansible, python and/or powershell.

  • Actively contribute to domain body of knowledge.

  • Design, deploy, and manage enterprise backup solutions, including tape, disk, and cloud-based systems.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex backup failures, ensuring data recoverability and minimal downtime.

  • Monitor backup performance, analyze trends, and optimize processes for efficiency and reliability.

  • Ensure compliance with internal standards, contractual obligations, and industry regulations.

  • Proficiency in multiple scripting languages to develop solutions for automation and reporting.

What You Will Need:

  • Minimum 11 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 8 years with a Master’s; or 5 years with a PhD;

  • 4+ years of Linux administration (RHEL or similar).

  • Strong scripting skills in Python, plus Bash, PowerShell, and SQL.

  • Proven experience managing and modernizing enterprise backup environments.

  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills for cross-functional collaboration.

  • Experience supporting enterprise-scale modernization, migration, and optimization projects.

Preferred

  • Experience with Rubrik, NetBackup, and Commvault backup platforms in mixed Windows/Linux environments.

  • Familiarity with backup analytics and custom reporting/scripting (e.g., NetBackup IT Analytics).

  • Understanding of competitive landscape from both business and technical perspectives.

As of the date of this posting, a good faith estimate of the current pay scale for this role is $105,000 to $150,000 annually based on a full-time schedule. Please note that placement in the range may vary based on numerous factors including but not limited to skills, experience, internal equity, and business needs. In addition to base salary, other compensation programs, depending on eligibility, includean annual bonus plan based on company and individual performance plan, and an equity grant under our Associate Equity Appreciation Program.
