The Field Engineering Inspector – Inspection & Maintenance (I&M) plays a critical role in Asplundh Engineering Services’ technical operations. This position requires prior experience in distribution or transmission engineering and focuses on performing detailed field inspections of utility poles, assessing structural integrity through industry‑standard engineering methods, and documenting technical findings with accuracy and care. You will support complex engineering evaluations, ensure compliance with safety and reliability standards, and contribute to system improvement initiatives. WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL
Strong technical competence with the ability to apply engineering reasoning to field conditions.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to prepare clear, detailed reports.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
Familiarity with CAD tools (AutoCAD or MicroStation) is a plus but not required.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to keep documentation, schedules, and field records well maintained.
Ability to build and maintain positive working relationships with coworkers, clients, and field personnel.
Must reside in or within a reasonable commuting distance of Foxborough, Massachusetts .
Reliable personal vehicle, valid driver’s license, and insurance.
Self‑motivated and able to work independently with limited supervision.
Willingness and ability to work in outdoor field conditions.
HOW YOU WILL MAKE AN IMPACT
Conduct detailed field inspections of utility poles, including:
Taking high‑quality photographs and capturing field measurements
Completing inspection forms and digital documentation
Testing and assessing safety and structural integrity
Produce technical reports, calculations, and correspondence under supervision.
Maintain accurate and organized inspection records, logs, and communication files.
Represent AES with professionalism, strong customer service, and adherence to safety expectations.
Assist in data collection, field verification, and other engineering‑related field tasks.
Complete a targeted number of inspections daily while maintaining quality and precision.
Other duties as assigned.
FIELD WORK DISCLAIMER
This role requires regular outdoor field work. Applicants must be comfortable working in varying weather conditions and standing, walking, or carrying equipment for extended periods. Safety equipment—including eye and ear protection, hard hats, and proper footwear—is required. All safety procedures must be strictly followed.
