Job Description

This is a site based role at our global headquarters in Foster City, CA.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Enterprise Category Strategy Excellence

  • Collaborate with Commercial organization leadership to identify requirements aligned with business strategies and priorities. Successfully engage in strategic planning and target setting to deliver meaningful business impact. ​

  • Manage a holistic portfolio end-to-end, which includes an array of strategies, operational excellence projects and programs from across the Procurement organization while creating a single point of contact and a seamless Procurement engagement.

  • Drive procurement impact and value through global, enterprise wide Commercial category strategy formulation and implementation, delivering initiatives resulting in a direct improvement of the Procurement experience for all Gilead stakeholders and one voice to suppliers.

  • Establish and monitor key performance metrics, status on deliverables, Dashboards, Market Intelligence, and ensuring visibility and adoption of preferred supplier programs

  • Provide progress status briefings to management, project teams, and executives, proactively highlighting issues with projects, timelines, etc., that require awareness or attention.

  • Drive development and communication cadence on strategies, ensuring alignment with senior leadership. Generate executive-level presentations.

  • Create a compelling case for change and inspire stakeholders and your team to collaborate and realize the value, innovation, and creativity Procurement brings to the business plan.

  • Influence decision-making and gain adoption by leveraging compelling category and sourcing insights to contribute to business strategies.

  • Responsible for leading and developing a team to define and deliver global/regional category strategies.

  • Seek, develop, and establish business relationships with key suppliers. Meet regularly with regional and divisional stakeholders to ensure outstanding customer satisfaction and continuous improvement against category targets are met.

  • Partner with suppliers and internal senior leadership to define clear supplier targets which meet Gilead's business needs, including quality, reliability, innovation, and cost.

  • Act as a strategic thought partner aligning on business objectives, challenges, projects, requirements, and expectations and ensuring Procurement team translates into category planning and solutions.

  • Drive Value Creation: Identify specific cost improvement opportunities and present them to the marketing leadership for prioritization, resourcing, and implementation; align with regional teams on the implementation plans and drive execution and adherence to the strategy.

  • Collaborate with Supplier Risk, Inclusion, and Sustainability functions to create a standard and repeatable process to integrate business diversity and responsible procurement into an overall value proposition.

  • Head the development of benchmarks globally and understand marketing category industry dynamics through agencies capabilities sessions, attendance of industry-related workshops, reading publications, and discussions with other industry peers to bring best practices.

  • Oversee the development of fact-based negotiation strategies with critical strategic vendors within assigned categories.

  • Identify, develop, and advise implementing Procurements goals and category strategies based on deep subject matter expertise and an informal understanding of industry/market dynamics.

  • Provide holistic overview and insights across end-to-end category accountabilities, including category strategy development, business partner engagement, sourcing, contracting, negotiating, and supplier management at senior levels with key business units.

  • Foster and nurture a culture of inclusion, results orientation, psychological safety to optimize team performance.

  • Empower team members to feel like they can speak up, propose new and different ways of working, and most importantly, grow and advance in a career path in Procurement as well as Gilead overall.

Experience Requirements:

  • 14+ years professional work experience plus a BS/BA or 12+ years professional work experience plus a MA/MS or MBA in a corporate environment, preferably in the areas of DEI, procurement and supplier management, or corporate strategy.

  • 8+ years' experience heading and managing procurement leaders & teams with a focus on mentoring, coaching, and performance management.

  • Excellent cross-functional collaboration and effective business partnering capabilities - Influence without authority mindset

  • Advance understanding of marketplace and industry supply base, practices, and standards

  • Ability to build and nurture strategic partnerships with suppliers and influence executive level external stakeholders

  • Ability to apply broad and deep subject matter expertise to solve various highly complex business issues.

  • Strong negotiation skills, with experience managing complex supplier relationships and high-value contracts ​

  • Demonstrated analytical acumen, with the ability to analyze and interpret complex spend and market data to shape category strategies, forecast trends, and identify value opportunities across procurement portfolios ​

  • Strong proficiency with procurement systems (e.g., SAP, Ariba) and analytics tools such as Excel and Tableau ​

  • Meets Gilead’s leadership expectations with demonstrated experience in applying these principles

  • Demonstrate robust ability to manage complexity and establish new and agile ways of working in a fast-paced environment

  • Strong problem-solving, decision-making, conflict resolution, negotiating, and strategic-thinking skills

The salary range for this position is: $243,100.00 - $314,600.00. Gilead considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives (eligibility may vary based on role), paid time off, and a benefits package.
