Qualus Relay Field Technician II in Fort Worth, Texas
Position Overview
Power your future with Qualus in our Field Engineering department as a Relay Field Technician II. As a Relay Field Technician II, the incumbent will be expected to utilize electrical theory in the application of methods and troubleshooting as it relates to applying test procedures for client protection and control systems and schemes.
Responsibilities
Design substations utilizing applicable codes and client standards (if available). Typical design to include general arrangement, equipment and electrical layout, elevation views, cable trench, grounding, conduit drawings, details, bills of material, and AC and DC power systems.
Design ground grids based on applicable codes utilizing industry available software.
Complete calculations such as AC and DC load, bus spans, and ampacity calculations.
Create equipment and material specifications for procurement of engineered equipment as well as development of design scope and cost estimates.
Complete conceptual designs and layouts for facility planning studies.
Direct and/or participate in client meetings/job site visits to collect or deliver design and engineering data.
Perform/Ensure company’s Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) processes are been follow on all design packages
Qualifications
Associate of Science in Electrical Technology (AET) or equivalent specialized training in system protection
Minimum of 1 year experience in commissioning, panel and equipment checkout, relay calibration, testing and repairing substation relaying and control schemes
Experience in handling simple volt-ohm-meter and working with hand tools
Experience in reading and interpreting One Line, AC & DC Elementary and Wiring diagrams
Proficient computer, computer network, and Android/iPhone app skills: Microsoft Office suite of software, mapping drive letters for server connections, obtaining, installing, and connecting hand held device apps to ‘The Cloud’ or other locations as required
Ability to perform regular field work in various work environments, conditions and weather
Learn and apply client’s switching procedures and safety measures under direct supervision
Reference and complete assignments as described in applicable specifications
Quickly learn and apply test procedure for various types of substation equipment
Candidates must be able to perform physical activity such as pushing, pulling, lifting and bending in all types of weather extremes
Candidates must be able to lift at least 30 lbs. without assistance
Ability to read company manuals and reports, workplace rules and procedures; speak with poise and confidence, using correct English
Valid driver’s license and good driving record
Ability to communicate effectively in English (inclusive of reading and writing) due to the nature of safety-related materials, documentation, and interactions with clients.
