Job Title: PCB Design Engineer
Job Description
The PCB Design Engineer will support high‑reliability aerospace and defense programs by leading complex, multi‑layer printed circuit board design activities from concept through release. This full‑time, onsite role in the DFW Metro Area focuses on creating robust PCB layouts that meet stringent electrical, mechanical, and environmental requirements while collaborating closely with cross‑functional engineering teams. The position requires deep expertise with advanced PCB design tools and industry standards to ensure mission‑critical hardware performs reliably in demanding applications.
Responsibilities
Utilize industry‑leading PCB design tools, including OrCAD, Allegro, to develop complex printed circuit board layouts.
Design multi‑layer printed circuit boards ranging from 2 to 25 layers, ensuring compliance with electrical, mechanical, thermal, and environmental requirements.
Execute PCB layout and design activities for complex electronic assemblies used in aerospace and defense products.
Collaborate closely with electrical engineers, mechanical engineers, and other cross‑functional team members to ensure design integrity, manufacturability, and testability.
Support and participate in formal and informal design reviews, providing clear documentation and rationale for layout decisions.
Perform and support Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Test (DFT) analysis to optimize board designs for production and test.
Assist in troubleshooting and resolving issues identified during prototype builds, including layout‑related performance or manufacturability concerns.
Ensure all PCB designs adhere to applicable aerospace and defense standards, customer specifications, IPC guidelines, and internal design rules.
Maintain accurate design files, documentation, and revision control throughout the project lifecycle.
Work onsite daily to support rapid engineering collaboration, timely issue resolution, and effective project execution.
Essential Skills
5–10 years of professional PCB design experience with proven expertise in multi‑layer board layout, including completion of 20 or more complex boards.
Hands‑on proficiency with OrCAD and Allegro PCB design tools, with the ability to design complex boards with 2–25 layers.
Strong experience with PCB layout for aerospace and defense applications, including familiarity with relevant standards and IPC guidelines.
Demonstrated ability to design boards that meet stringent electrical, mechanical, and environmental requirements.
Proficiency in collaborating with electrical and mechanical engineering teams to ensure design integrity and manufacturability.
Experience supporting DFM and DFT activities and incorporating feedback into PCB layouts.
Strong communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey technical information and work effectively within a fast‑paced engineering team.
Must be a U.S. Citizen due to project and customer requirements.
Must currently reside in the DFW Metro Area and be willing to work onsite 5 days per week.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience working within aerospace and defense environments and with applicable aerospace and defense PCB design standards.
Familiarity with industry standards such as IPC 6011/6012 for PCB manufacturability.
Exposure to or experience with simulation for PCB designs, including signal integrity and power integrity analysis.
Knowledge of EMI/EMC considerations and best practices in PCB layout.
Experience with high‑speed digital design, including DDR4 and DDR5 interfaces.
Familiarity with HyperLynx or similar simulation tools for signal and power integrity analysis.
Experience with Valor or similar DFM/DFA tools for manufacturability and assembly analysis.
Understanding of medical device safety standards such as IEC standards (nice to have).
Work Environment
This role is based onsite in the DFW Metro Area, working 5 days per week in an engineering center focused on aerospace and defense programs. The environment is highly collaborative, with close interaction among electrical, mechanical, and hardware engineers to support rapid design iterations and timely project execution. You will work daily with advanced PCB design and analysis tools, supporting complex, mission‑critical hardware development in a fast‑paced, engineering‑driven setting.
