Actalent Mechanical Control Systems Engineer in Fort Worth, Texas

Job Title: Mechanical Control Systems Engineer

Job Description

The Remote Controls Engineer – Hardware in the Loop (HIL) is responsible for developing and validating system-level controls and software behavior using advanced modeling and HIL simulation environments. This role focuses on transient modeling, virtual integration, and requirements development rather than physical lab testing, and can be performed in a remote or center-based environment. The engineer will build and maintain dynamic plant and controls models using tools such as Simulink, define and decompose system-level software requirements, and execute compliance analysis against transient performance requirements. This role plays a critical upstream function, ensuring that software and controls behavior is fully defined, validated, and distributable to downstream engineering teams. The position also owns Hardware in the Loop test development, using simulation to observe system behavior under transient and edge case scenarios, and distributing validated requirements and test outputs to software and component teams.

Responsibilities

  • Develop transient system models for dynamic plant and control behavior.

  • Create and maintain Hardware in the Loop (HIL) test environments.

  • Write system-level software requirements for controls functionality.

  • Perform compliance analysis against transient and performance requirements.

  • Decompose system requirements into component-level needs, such as sensor tolerances and sample rates.

  • Distribute validated models, requirements, and findings to software and hardware teams.

  • Support alignment between controls behavior, software implementation, and system performance.

Essential Skills

  • Proficiency with Simulink for dynamic modeling.

  • Experience in controls modeling, simulation, or HIL development.

  • Experience supporting system-level software or controls requirements.

  • Strong understanding of transient behavior and system dynamics.

  • Experience translating system-level behavior into software requirements.

  • Strong analytical and systems thinking mindset.

  • Ability to work cross-functionally with software, controls, and component teams.

  • Clear technical documentation and communication skills.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or higher degree in Controls, Electrical, Mechanical, or Systems Engineering (or equivalent experience).

  • Experience developing or executing Hardware in the Loop simulations.

Work Environment

Ability to work in a center-based environment without reliance on physical lab access.
