Lead the analysis, plan, and forecast of block (travel) times for all our flights. Evaluate different block strategies to find the best balance between network reliability and operational costs.
Lead the evaluation of future network schedule designs. Coordinate with other teams such as network planning, crew planning and operations to ensure smooth implementation.
Consider the effects of new schedules, hub changes, construction, and other initiatives on our operations.
You are part of the Operations Schedule Planning team, within the Operations Planning and Performance Division. Our team collaborates with other departments to create American’s global schedule.
What you'll do

Lead the Operations Schedule Planning team in charge of developing the block forecast, schedule evaluation and improvements, and block performance reports and reviews to improve schedule and operational reliability
Actively work with Network Planning on Schedule structure to reduce congestion/queuing times and improve reliability in our schedule
Provide guidance for block forecasting tools and models developed by OR given observed performance trends and pain points
Incorporate next generation block methodology that leverages advanced analytical techniques, and high-fidelity simulation, including optimal block distribution
Act as a strategic planning partner to the IOC/Airports/Network Planning to identify and mitigate bottlenecks on the surface and in the airspace to increase airport throughput to facilitate the company's growth plans without compromising dependability
Bring thought leadership to issues, initiatives and schedule areas across the operation
Lead operation wide readiness efforts for major operational initiatives and milestones
Evaluate and build recommendations around support aircraft and gating
Work in partnership with the other analytics, data, and development teams within American
All you'll need for success
Minimum Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience
Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Operations Research, Industrial Engineering, Statistics, Applied Math, or other related fields
5 years of relevant work experience
Preferred Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience
Masters' degree in Business Administration, Operations Research, Industrial Engineering, Statistics, Applied Math, or other related fields
Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook)
Experience with 1 or more programming languages (e.g. R and Python)
Experience with Cloud Computing and/or Distributed Computing (e.g. Databricks, Spark, AWS)
Skills, Licenses & Certifications
High energy, results driven leader who possesses strong oral and written communication skills, along with a collaborative mindset and the ability to be persuasive and influence others
Skilled in data analysis/modeling in Excel/R/Python to answer business questions and assess operational impacts
Ability to effectively understand and analyze detailed information
Strong business acumen; technical learning/innovation management
Ability to perform both independently and as a team member, handle multiple assignments, complete projects on time, and respond to changing priorities
Ability to complete assigned projects accurately and within defined deadlines
Adaptable, comfortable with unstructured work and occasional shifting priorities
Ability to drive collaboration and facilitate effective relationships across different work groups and levels of the company
