Peach County Board of Commissioners Animal Control Technician in Fort Valley, Georgia
The Animal Services Assistant will be responsible for the daily care and maintenance of animals at the shelter. This role involves cleaning and stocking animal areas, maintaining the facility, assisting the public, and providing basic medical care for animals as needed. Assisting with temperament testing. Help maintain social media as needed.
Key Responsibilities:
Clean and sanitize animal enclosures, kennels, and common areas
Stock and maintain supplies, including food, bedding, and cleaning materials
Monitor the health and well-being of animals, reporting any concerns to the Supervisor
Assist the public with inquiries and adoptions, providing excellent customer service
Provide basic medical care to animals, such as administering medications and treatments as directed by staff
Maintain accurate records of animal care and facility maintenance
Assist with the intake and processing of new animals
Ensure a safe and clean environment for both animals and staff
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent; additional education in animal science or a related field is a plus
Experience working with animals, preferably in a shelter or veterinary setting
Knowledge of animal care and handling techniques
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Physical ability to lift, carry, and restrain animals of various sizes
Attention to detail and strong organizational skills
Basic computer knowledge.
Working Conditions:
Work is performed mostly outdoors in various weather conditions
May involve exposure to aggressive or frightened animals
Requires lifting, carrying, and restraining animals up to 100 plus pounds
Must be available to work weekends and holidays as needed
