Description

Lee County is looking for detail-oriented and safety-focused team members to help ensure our wells, borings, and related construction projects are built safely and meet local and state standards. In this role, you’ll help protect our community’s water resources by inspecting construction sites, enforcing county ordinances, and supporting responsible water use across Lee County.

This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working outdoors, solving problems on-site, and wants a stable career in public service that makes a direct impact on our community’s water quality and conservation.

Duties and Responsibilities

What You Will Do

  • Conduct inspections of water wells, soil borings, elevator shafts, and demolition sites.

  • Make sure all work follows Lee County Well Code 23-14 and Florida Administrative Code 40E-3.032.

  • Schedule, perform, and document construction inspections across Lee County.

  • Review and approve field competency for soil boring and elevator shaft construction and permits.

  • Enforce the Water Conservation Ordinance, including investigating issues and issuing citations when needed.

  • Assist in enforcing the Landscape Ordinance when required.

  • Use tools and equipment to perform field testing and evaluate construction quality.

  • Communicate inspection results clearly with contractors, property owners, and the public.

  • Identify construction problems, recommend solutions, and help ensure safe, compliant work.

  • Apply knowledge of regulations, codes, and terminology related to well drilling and building construction.

Education, Experience, Licensing

What We’re Looking For

  • Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a High School Diploma or GED.

  • Additional training equal to one year of college in a related field, such as:

  • Environmental science or environmental technology

  • Construction technology

  • Water resources or utility operations

  • Geotechnical or drilling support

  • Building inspection or code compliance

  • Public works or field operations

  • Engineering technology

  • Natural resources or conservation

  • Two (2) years of experience in well construction, inspections, or similar work, such as:

  • Water well drilling or well construction

  • Soil boring or geotechnical drilling

  • Environmental field technician work

  • Elevator shaft or foundation construction

Licensing Requirements

  • Valid Florida driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.

  • Possess a State of Florida Water Well Contractor’s License or be able to obtain one within twelve (12) months of hire.

Supplemental Information

Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM.
