You’ll work on buses and other transit vehicles, learn new skills, and be part of a team that takes pride in serving Lee County.
Duties and Responsibilities
What You Will Do
Find and fix problems with transit vehicles
Install, repair, or replace vehicle systems and engine parts
Use diagnostic tools and software to check for issues
Keep records of the work you complete
Perform daily mechanical tasks in a busy shop
Help keep all vehicles safe and ready for service
Work with your team when needed
Perform other duties as assigned
Education, Experience, Licensing
What We’re Looking For
High school diploma, GED, or similar experience
Two years of mechanical experience working on diesel, gas, or heavy vehicles
Experience with Chevrolet, Ford, Cummins, or Allison diagnostic software is a plus
Able to work safely and follow DOT drug and alcohol rules
Willing to help train new mechanics
Licensing
Valid Class A or B CDL with Passenger Endorsement and no Air Brake restriction, OR
A CDL Permit with these same requirements before an offer
Must get a Florida Class B CDL with Passenger Endorsement and no Air Brake restriction within 30 days of hire
(Training and testing are provided by LeeTran.)
Safety-Sensitive Position
- Transit fleet mechanics are a safety-sensitive position, which is subject to Drug & Alcohol Workplace testing as provided in DOT regulation 49 CFR-parts 40 and /or 655.
Supplemental Information
Work Schedule
You will work four (4) ten-hour shifts each week
Shift: 4:00 AM – 2:30 PM
LeeTran operates seven days a week, including some holidays
Shifts change by seniority
Evening shifts offer extra pay

If you have retired from the Florida Retirement Pension plan you will not be eligible for renewed membership in either of the FRS retirement plan options. Retirees of the Investment Plan are eligible for renewed membership in the Investment Plan only. FRS reemployment rules apply for both.
