Description

Lee County is seeking skilled, dependable, and safety-focused equipment operators to join our Department of Transportation Operations team.

In this role, you will help maintain safe and clean roadways throughout the county by operating heavy equipment and supporting roadway maintenance activities.

This position is ideal for someone who enjoys hands-on outdoor work, takes pride in operating equipment, and wants a steady public-service career that makes a real difference every day.

Duties and Responsibilities

What You Will Do

  • Maintain road right-of-ways to keep them clean and safe

  • Operate and haul heavy equipment, including batwing mowers, slope mowers, lowboys, front-end loaders, trucks with trailers, pick-up trucks, skid steers, and zero-turn mowers

  • Use hand tools and power tools for daily tasks

  • Perform routine inspections and basic maintenance on assigned equipment

  • Work alone or with a crew to complete daily assignments

  • Assist other crews or departments as needed

  • Set up safe work zones and follow all traffic and safety regulations

  • Fill in for the Crew Supervisor when necessary, including documenting daily activities, guiding crew members, and reporting to the Project Manager

  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Education, Experience, Licensing

What We’re Looking For

  • High School Diploma or GED, or an equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Three years of heavy equipment operation or related experience

  • Ability to work in a safety-sensitive position and comply with DOT Drug & Alcohol testing requirements

Licensing Requirements

  • Valid Class A CDL permit with the ability to get a Class A license within 6 months

Safety-Sensitive Position

  • This is a safety-sensitive position and is subject to Drug and Alcohol Workplace Testing under DOT regulations (49 CFR Parts 40 and/or 382).

Supplemental Information

Work Schedule: Tuesday-Friday 7:00 AM-5:30 PM
