Description

Lee County Utilities (LCU) is looking for hands-on, safety-minded team members to help support our community’s water metering systems. In this role, you will install, maintain, and troubleshoot water meters to ensure accurate billing and reliable service for residents and businesses across Lee County.

This position is a great fit for someone who enjoys working outdoors, using technical tools, and wants a stable career in public service that supports essential water systems.

Duties and Responsibilities

What You Will Do

  • Install, remove, and maintain water meters, meter boxes, and related parts.

  • Read water meters accurately using handheld computer equipment.

  • Follow a set route schedule and meet Lee County accuracy standards.

  • Inspect water meter equipment for issues or defects.

  • Locate and uncover meters, clean meter boxes, and replace covers.

  • Troubleshoot and repair automated water meter equipment and network components.

  • Complete turn-on and turn-off customer service orders.

  • Perform minor repairs or replacements to ensure proper meter operation.

  • Use a Windows computer to open, close, and navigate files and applications.

  • Complete vehicle inspection forms and customer notification tags.

  • Communicate clearly with coworkers, officials, and the public.

  • Follow all safety procedures and maintain safe work habits.

  • Work on an on-call rotation, including nights and weekends.

  • Perform other tasks as needed to support ongoing operations.

Education, Experience, Licensing

What We’re Looking For

A combination of education and experience equivalent to:

  • High School Diploma or GED.

  • At least six months of trade or field-related experience.

Helpful related experience may include:

  • Water meter or plumbing work

  • Utility field operations

  • Water or wastewater system maintenance

  • Basic mechanical or equipment repair

Additional skills:

  • Ability to use a Windows computer and basic applications

  • Strong attention to detail

  • Reliable time management

Licensing Requirements

  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.

Supplemental Information

Work Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM.
