Description
Lee County Utilities (LCU) is looking for careful, safety-focused team members to help protect our community’s underground utility systems. In this role, you will locate and mark water, wastewater, reclaimed water, electric, and fiber optic lines so construction crews and the public can work safely.
This position is a great fit for someone who enjoys working outdoors, using technical tools, and wants a stable career in public service that supports essential water and sewer systems.
Duties and Responsibilities
What You Will Do
Locate water lines (1" to 36"), including valves, fire hydrants, meter boxes, and water service lines.
Locate wastewater lines (4" to 30"), including sewer laterals, force mains, manholes, and valves.
Locate reclaimed water lines (3" to 12"), including valves, meters, and service lines.
Locate electric, fiber optic, and chemical lines as needed.
Use hand tools and electronic locating equipment safely and correctly.
Follow proper safety procedures when working around underground utilities.
Keep accurate records of completed locates, markings, and field conditions.
Education, Experience, Licensing
What We’re Looking For
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to:
High School Diploma or GED.
One (1) year of experience in utility locating or similar work. Related experience may include:
Water, sewer, or reclaimed water line work
Underground utility construction
Utility mapping or field operations
Reading utility drawings, blueprints, or as-built plans
Field testing or inspection work
Maintenance or repair of water or wastewater systems
Ability to use locating equipment and understand the signals.
Ability to read utility maps, construction plans, and as-built drawings.
Strong time management and attention to detail.
Licensing Requirements
- Valid Florida driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
Supplemental Information
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM.
