Position Summary:
This Veterinary Technician Assistant position primarily provides support for the technicians and patients within Equine Critical Care, Medicine, Surgery & Lameness and Ophthalmology services whose care are being overseen by faculty, residents and interns. This position requires a basic knowledge of various medical procedures, biosecurity surveillance, and proper equipment usage. This position will assist in the case management on a day-to-day basis by providing support services such as stocking, cleaning and maintaining equipment after use, and providing continuity of patient care with the guidance and oversight of the primary technician on shift. This position should have the availability to work holidays, overnights, and weekends as we are a 24/7/365 hospital.

Description of Work Unit:
At the CSU Veterinary Teaching Hospital (VTH) we exist to educate the next generation of veterinarians by providing exceptional veterinary care and service to the community every day. This work unit exists to provide administration and direction of the Veterinary Teaching Hospital and provide a support facility for service to the general public and referring veterinarians.

Essential Duties:
Deliver hands-on clinical care to equine patients by performing triage, physical assessment, restraint, treatments, and continuous monitoring to ensure safe, timely, and appropriate medical and surgical care.
Support diagnostic and treatment planning by collaborating with interns, residents, faculty, and technicians to evaluate patient status, collect diagnostic samples, interpret patient response to therapy, and prepare patients for procedures.
Perform advanced technical and clinical procedures by administering fluids and medications, collecting blood and IV samples, obtaining blood gases, and operating and troubleshooting specialty-related medical equipment required for equine care.
Prepare, assist with, and recover patients from procedures and appointments by setting up and breaking down for neuro exams, endoscopy, ultrasound, respiratory diagnostics, ophthalmology exams, and other specialty services.
Maintain a safe, organized, and fully stocked clinical environment by cleaning and preparing treatment areas, ensuring equipment readiness, and supporting efficient workflow within the equine hospital.
Enforce and educate on biosecurity protocols by properly cleaning and storing equipment between patients, modeling best practices within the equine barn, participating in annual deep cleaning of the hospital, and reinforcing isolation and infection-control procedures to protect patients, staff, and students.
Support clinical education and compliance by reinforcing hospital and isolation-unit protocols for DVM and FRCC students and ensuring adherence to established biosecurity and operational standards.
Perform other related duties as assigned to support equine hospital operations.

Minimum Qualifications:
HS Diploma or GED
One (1) year of experience caring for animals or providing animal handling duties OR HS Diploma or GED and a combination of related education and/or experience in an occupation related to the work assigned to this position equal to one (1) year.
Preferred Qualifications:
One year (1) experience working in an equine or small animal veterinary hospital.
Demonstrate experience providing customer service in a fast paced environment.
A strong desire to learn and advance medical and technical knowledge base.
Ability to be compassionate and empathetic to clients in emotional situations.
Demonstrate experience working with a team.
Strong attention to detail and analytical skills.

Salary Range
$36,000 -$39,520
