*Pay Range: All newly hired Bus Operators to PSD will be hired as a Bus Operator Trainee with varied hours and at a set hourly rate of pay of $23.39/hour. After successful completion of the required training class and CDL, Trainees will be moved into the Bus Operator position and assigned a route with scheduled hours. The rate of pay for Bus Operator is $23.39 - $26.20 (min -- 12% above min)/hr, depending on related experience.  **

SUMMARY:

Complete the Poudre School District's driver training program and obtain a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class B with P and S endorsement within 90 days in this position. Work in a Paraprofessional Bus Attendant capacity to minimize driver distractions and assist with ensuring students are safe during the loading, unloading, transporting, and transferring on buses

Responsible for operating a school bus to transport students in a safe and timely manner to, from, and in-between schools. Will also transport students on District sponsored activity trips.


*JOB TASKS: *

  1. Attend and participate in the district Bus Operator training program. Bus Operator training class requires 100% attendance, or at least the classroom portion. 

  2. Assist driver in maintaining appropriate student behavior by monitoring behavior and intervening as necessary and reporting incidences of unsafe or inappropriate actions that occur on or off the bus. 

     3. Aid in the loading and unloading of students, especially those with special needs. 

     4. Communicate with driver in developing a team environment. 

     5. Through route sheets and reports, acquire and maintain information such as medical information, physical limitations, and symptoms that may require immediate attention or intervention concerning assigned students. 

     6. Ensure all students are properly loaded and seated. 

     7. Assist bus driver in keeping special needs equipment picked up and stored in its proper place when not in use, cleaning the interior of the bus, and sanitizing seats after each route. 

     8. Practice emergency evacuation drills with students and driver.

     9. Attend work and arrive in a timely manner. 

     10. Obtain a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class B with P and S endorsement within 90 days in this position. 

  3. Perform other duties as assigned.

  4. Maintain appropriate student behavior to allow safe vehicle operation. Maintain appropriate communication with supervisors, schools, and parents regarding student behavior. 

  5. Perform daily pre- and post-trip safety inspections of bus in accordance with Colorado Department of Education, state, and federal regulations, and Poudre School District policies and procedures. 

  6. Drive assigned route according to routing directions and follow schedule for student pickup and dropoff times as provided. 

  7. Aid in the loading and unloading of students, especially those with special needs. 

  8. Periodically review and update routes. 

  9. Perform a daily review of comm nication via e-mails, memos, route updates, etc. 

  10. Report to immediate supervisor route direction changes, students who miss the bus, and time changes for student pickups and drop-offs that differ from the route schedule. Maintain appropriate communication with supervisors, schools, and parents regarding route changes. 

  11. Clean inside and outside of bus and sanitize seats and handrails after each route to disinfect. 

  12. Report all unsafe route directions or bus stop locations to supervisor and participate in finding solutions. 

  13. Complete daily pre- and post-trip forms, vehicle condition reports, mileage reports, assigned activity trip forms, and required misconduct reports. 

  14. Attend in-service trainings and terminal meetings in addition to all required driver and supervisor meetings. 

  15. Perform other duties as assigned.

*EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, & LICENSES REQUIRED: *

• High school diploma or equivalent • Experience working with children preferred LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS or CERTIFICATIONS: • Criminal background check required for hire • Must be 21 years of age and obtain a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class B with P and S endorsement • Must have valid US drivers license for a minimum of three consecutive years • Pass Department of Transportation (DOT) physical • First Aid certification required within 60 days of hire • Must meet District driver insurability requirements
