Position Summary
Several temporary Teaching Aide positions are available in the Professional Veterinary Medical (DVM) program within the Department of Biomedical Sciences at Colorado State University. These positions support the Foundations of Veterinary Medicine curriculum by assisting with hands-on instruction and evaluation of DVM students in a clinical learning environment.
Appointments are semester-based, non-benefit eligible, and may be renewed based on program needs. Hours average approximately 2–6 hours per week during the instructional period, with additional paid time for orientation and preparation.

Brief Description of the Work Unit
The Department of Biomedical Sciences is one of four departments within the College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences (CVMBS). The department supports nationally and internationally recognized teaching and research programs in veterinary medicine, biomedical sciences, and clinical education, with a strong emphasis on student success in the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) program.
Essential Job Duties
Facilitate hands-on laboratory instruction for Foundations of Veterinary Medicine courses, supporting student learning in small-animal physical examination techniques.
Assist in teaching and evaluating DVM students in clinical skills including general health assessments, ophthalmology, dermatology, cardiology, and pain evaluation.
Model and reinforce safe, low-stress handling techniques for canine and feline patients in instructional settings.
Support instruction related to additional clinical skills such as injections, venipuncture, intubation, and bandaging, as applicable to course content.
Prepare instructional spaces and equipment prior to lab sessions, following established course and safety guidelines.
Evaluate student performance in a clinical setting and provide feedback in alignment with course objectives and assessment standards.
Participate in required orientation sessions, training activities, and end-of-semester debriefings with supervising faculty.
Conditions of Employment
Position is temporary, hourly, and non-benefit eligible.
Appointment is for one semester with potential continuation based on program needs.
Must be able to work in a clinical teaching environment involving live animals.
Background check required.
Supervision
This position reports to designated faculty or instructional supervisors within the Department of Biomedical Sciences.
Minimum Qualifications
Associate’s degree in Veterinary Technology (or equivalent) and five years of veterinary clinical experience OR
Ten years of veterinary technician on-the-job training in a certified clinic.
At least one semester of experience teaching as a clinical educator in veterinary medicine.
Demonstrated proficiency in small-animal physical examination techniques.
Preferred Qualifications
Five or more years of experience in high-quality veterinary practices (e.g., AAHA-certified).
Strong communication skills and demonstrated effectiveness as a clinical instructor.
