POSITION SUMMARY:
As a Mechanical Engineer II in the Plasma Power Group, you will contribute to the design, analysis, and validation of mechanical systems for high power systems used in plasma processing applications. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop innovative, manufacturable, and reliable solutions for high-power electronics. This role emphasizes thermal management, materials science, and mechanical design in complex environments.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Participate in all phases of mechanical engineering during the product development lifecycle.
• Design and analyze thermal management systems including cold plates, heat sinks, and air/liquid cooling mechanisms.
• Develop and document mechanical components such as sheet metal, machined, molded, and 3D-printed parts.
• Design and route power and communication cables to meet system and regulatory requirements.
• Create and manage Bills of Materials (BOMs) throughout the product lifecycle.
• Collaborate with suppliers and the supply chain team to ensure manufacturability, cost-effectiveness, and timely delivery of components.
• Conduct thermal and structural simulations using tools like Ansys. Validate simulation results through lab testing.
• Perform tolerance stack-up analysis and apply GD&T per ANSI Y14.5 standards.
• Design experiments and automate data collection for performance validation.
• Apply DFM/DFA principles to optimize designs for manufacturability, testability, and serviceability.
• Support prototype builds and participate in hands-on testing and troubleshooting.
• Select and evaluate materials suitable for use in environments with high RF fields.
• Collaborate with fellow engineers to ensure robust, manufacturable, and high-quality mechanical designs.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
• Location: Fort Collins, Colorado
• Work is split between a standard office environment, an engineering lab, and/or clean room.
• Minimal travel may be required both domestically and internationally.
QUALIFICATIONS :
Required:
• Proficiency in SolidWorks or equivalent 3D CAD software.
• Familiarity with sheet metal, machined, molded, extruded, stamped, and 3D-printed parts.
• Experience with tolerance analysis and GD&T (ANSI Y14.5).
• Hands-on experience with lab testing and data collection.
• Experience creating and managing Bills of Materials (BOMs).
• Experience designing and routing power and communication cables.
• Collaboration with suppliers and supply chain teams for manufacturability and sourcing.
• Background in electronics packaging or RF systems preferred.
• Familiarity with materials suitable for use in high RF field environments preferred.
• Exposure to DFM/DFA principles preferred.
EXPERIENCE:
• 3-5 years of mechanical engineering experience and BS, or more than one year of experience and MS.
• Experience designing thermal management systems (cold plates, heat sinks, air/liquid cooling).
• Experience with Ansys or similar simulation tools for thermal and structural analysis preferred
• Experience with scripting (e.g., Python or MATLAB) for test automation or data analysis preferred.
EDUCATION:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Materials Science
COMPENSATION:
As required by multiple state pay transparency laws, Advanced Energy provides a reasonable range of compensation for each job posting. Actual compensation is influenced by an array of factors including, but not limited to, skill set, level of experience, and specific office location. The range of starting pay for this role is $75,000 - $105,000 per year.
