Mustad USA Maintenance & CNC SOP Development Intern (Summer 2026) in Forest Lake, Minnesota
Interested in learning how world-class manufacturing systems are documented, standardized, and improved?
Mustad North America is seeking an Undergraduate Intern to support maintenance best-practice documentation and develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for CNC and machine operations. This role provides hands-on exposure to real shop floor activities while working closely with maintenance leaders, operators, and engineers to capture critical knowledge and translate it into clear, structured documentation.
What You’ll Do
- Shadow maintenance leads and SMEs to capture detailed best practices and workflows
• Develop clear SOPs covering machine operation, safety, setup, controls, production, and maintenance
• Document machine sub-systems including hydraulics, pneumatics, cooling, filtration, and automation
• Digitally photograph machines and components for technical documentation
• Organize and standardize operating instructions, engineering files, and documentation packages
• Update legacy documentation and improve clarity, usability, and accuracy
• Collaborate cross-functionally to validate procedures and support continuous improvement
• Assist in identifying gaps and recommending improvements in documentation and processes
What We’re Looking For
- Undergraduate students in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial Engineering, or related fields
• Strong attention to detail and ability to clearly document technical processes
• Basic understanding of CNC machining and manufacturing operations
• Comfortable working on the shop floor and interacting with technicians and engineers
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
• Strong problem-solving skills — ability to gather data, analyze, and draw conclusions
• Effective written and verbal communication skills for technical audiences
• Organized, self-driven, and able to manage time and priorities
This internship offers valuable exposure to real manufacturing operations, CNC processes, and technical documentation systems , while building skills in process standardization, engineering communication, and continuous improvement.
