Job Title: Coil Winder

Job Description

This role focuses on programming and operating a lathe machine to wind coils of various sizes for transformers, performing light aluminum welding as needed, and supporting general shop activities. There are two openings: one experienced Coil Winder and one Assistant who will receive on-the-job training to become a Coil Winder while helping around the shop.

Responsibilities

  • Program and operate a lathe machine to perform precise coil winding for transformer components.

  • Set up coil winding jobs based on project specifications and adjust machine parameters as needed.

  • Wind a range of coils in different sizes and configurations according to technical requirements and blueprints.

  • Read and interpret blueprints for transformers to ensure accurate dimensions and winding patterns.

  • Use a tape measure to verify measurements and confirm that coils meet specified tolerances.

  • Perform minimal aluminum welding during projects to support coil assembly and related tasks.

  • Use a variety of power and hand tools safely and effectively to complete shop assignments.

  • Assist with general shop duties, including material handling, basic setup, and cleanup, to keep the work area organized and efficient.

  • Follow safety procedures and best practices while operating machinery, tools, and equipment.

  • For the Assistant role, learn and develop coil winding and lathe programming skills under guidance, progressively taking on more complex tasks.

Essential Skills

  • Experience programming and running a lathe machine for production or similar applications.

  • Hands-on experience using a variety of power tools and hand tools in a shop or mechanical environment.

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints for transformers or comparable mechanical drawings.

  • Proficiency in soldering, including heating and melting materials to create secure bonds.

  • Ability to accurately read and use a tape measure for precise measurements.

  • Practical experience or demonstrated ability in coil winding or similar repetitive precision work.

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and comfort working with tools, machines, and technical instructions.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Vo-tech or vocational-technical schooling in a mechanical, manufacturing, or related field.

  • Prior experience in a manufacturing, fabrication, or machine shop environment.

  • Basic aluminum welding experience or willingness to perform light welding tasks.

  • Willingness to learn new skills and cross-train in multiple shop positions.

  • Attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality, accurate work.

Work Environment

This position is based in a shop environment operating on a 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. shift. You will work with lathe machines, coil winding equipment, power tools, hand tools, and basic welding equipment as part of daily tasks. The facility focuses on transformer-related projects, where work pace and coil completion times vary by project. The environment is practical and production-oriented, with regular use of measuring tools, blueprints, and mechanical equipment, and requires adherence to standard safety practices and appropriate shop attire.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Fombell, PA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $20.00/hr.
