HANAC, Inc. Receptionist & Program Activities Coordinator in College Point, New York

HANAC, Inc. – originally founded by George Douris as the Hellenic American Neighborhood Action Committee – is a New York City-based multi-faceted social services organization. The organization was founded in 1972 to serve the needs of vulnerable populations throughout New York City.  

The Activity Coordinator/Receptionist will greet all visitors courteously, determines their needs, and directs them to the proper person and/or office.  Maintains security by following procedures.  Answers telephone, directing calls to the proper person/department. Under the supervision of the director, assist in planning and conducting recreational, educational, and cultural activities.

Rate of Pay: $19.43/hourly

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00 am - 3:30 pm 

Work Location: 13-28 123rd St, College Point, NY 11356

Responsibilities and Essential Functions include but are not limited to:

  • Greets and screens visitors and answers and screens all telephone calls.

  • Light typing and routine tasks are done at the reception desk. 

  • Prepares outgoing company material upon request by copying, collating, binding, and mailing.

  • Calendar management of conference room.

  • Notifying the Office Manager when running low on supplies.

  • Organize and conduct group and class activities.

  • Assist members in the development of skills.

  • Help coordinate special programs and events (assist in preparing fliers, newsletters, bulletin boards, etc.)

  • Prepare activity calendar, coordinate with the bookkeeper.

  • Coordinate Activities (attend bus outings as needed, to be determined by departmental needs).

  • Keep attendance and any other required records.

  • Conduct client registration.

  • Other related tasks may be assigned.

Qualifications: 

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; secretarial/telephone training preferred. 

  • Pleasant telephone and in-person manner and voice. 

  • Must be able to work on routine assignments with common sense and good judgment. 

  • Careful attention to office duties and willingness to pitch in to help co-workers is essential. 

  • 2 years' experience in a community, group work, or teaching environment.

  • Ability to type 50 wpm and utilize standard software programs and proofreading experience desirable.
